I'm not sure if this is better than the original but I love it. It's a cover of the German language version of Bowie's Heroes (Helden). It's Metal with cellos & Rammstein's Till Lindemann on vocals.
I'm slightly more partial to Sandra's German cover of "Big in Japan" than the original. Michael Cretu's production has that little more oomph http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQXzV9Rzh-4
Little known UK pop act Spray did a wonderful version of The Highwayman.
I prefer Nancy's version of Bang Bang to Cher's original.
Gloria Gaynor's version of "Never Can Say Goodbye".
I love to hear my most favorite singer James Otto cover the following songs.
"Ramblin' Man"-Allman Brothers
"They Call Me The Breeze"-Lynard Skynard
"Into The Mystic"-Van Morrison
"Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit Has Done Got Out Of Hand?"-Waylon Jennings
I really like Soft Cell's version and the original, I like that they didn't just copy the original version.
If i had to pick a favourite out of the two I'd say the original. It does change though
I agree with you. Although I do prefer Gloria Jones original, I do like the fact Soft Cell did something completely different with the song and it was a great version. It also made people seek out the original which is a good thing.
I'm someone who thinks covers are pointless unless they add something new to the original version and that is one of the few songs where that happened

Totally agree.

God bless you and him always!!!

I go back and forth between the two too
Disappointed to see 'Run' mentioned on here so often. But... horses for courses.
I'll agree it's a predictable response. I would imagine almost anyone with a pair of ears would say the same thing.

Absolutely no way!
Me too. The original is a classic. Love the emotion in Gary Lightbody's voice. Instant festival anthem status.
Fully agree. Snow Patrol's version has more emotion, but this forum does attract a lot of pop only fans.
The original by The Zutons just edges it for me.
Better with a Brummie accent.
Nah, I prefer the Manc attitude.
Ooh, eck; that's thirty years old.
Hurts - Confide In Me
Lana Del Rey - Goodbye Kiss
For me... not in a million years.
