Last few weeks been having some serious speed issues with Three.
It seems to be mostly early evening onward (just when I use it most) until about midnight and then after that it speeds up.
Just wondered if anyone else was experiencing any issues?

Your connection is being limited by traffic sense.
Between 3pm - 12am if you try to tether or use file share programs.
Three seem to be activating traffic sense again in various areas i have come across the same for the last few months.
Hi thats interesting...
This affects all 3 of my Three devices. Only one of those has tethering active and the device I ran speed tests from this morning is never tethered (iPhone 5S)....
This morning 15Mbps...this evening 1.4Mbps (same location both times)
I wonder if its my local tower experiencing congestion
yeah when i get limited it goes to 1.5MB the connection is actually really pants when traffic sense is active things like streaming can be a pain.
Try and reset the data connection or restart the phone.
Does your iPhone 5s have any sort of pier 2 pier software on it like file transfer anything along those lines?.
Almost seems like in the last few months Three have taken on a lot of customers but the network can't handle it.
No not at all...and like I say this speed issue affects all 3 of my Three devices:-
iPhone 5S
Sony Xperia SP
iPad 4 3G
I'm feeling like my issue is more about congestion because at times I am getting as little as 0.3 - 0.5 when I speedtest on each device.
That was what Three indicated to me when I chased this up...but its also been pretty crappy in all areas lately.
Yeah agree. Seems to have got slower and very unreliable.
If it wasnt for the hefty cost of high data allowance 4G on EE I would shift networks.....
It could also be maintenance, I know sometimes after they've done maintenance on my local cell, it can take days to recover. It can also take a couple of days to recover from heavy congestion. When the air show was on around here, it wasn't until 2 days after the airshow it sorted itself out.
I think it is congestion....but then they should really sort it out. Upgrades!
Well its been consistently bad for about 3 weeks now. Its a shame because prior to this their service was excellent.
I think Three are having massive UK wide problems and its probably just a matter of luck that every customer they have isn't complaining.
Lets face it I would imagine that its only small percentage of their customer base that would notice slow speeds.
Its just a shame that a company doesn't respect its customers enough to be open and honest and admit to a problem.
Westfield London has had rubbish Three reception inside for as long as I can remember. I assumed it was just saturation. Interestingly the DC-HSDPA has never covered there, although 4G is forecast to; whenever they get around to switching it on
Personally I'm quite happy with the speed I'm getting.. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/726263580
But hopefully the move to 4G over the next month will reduce the load on the 3G network in the areas covered and ease congestion.
4G wont help my area and anyway surely 3G / 4G is just between the device and the Base Station ie 3G / 4G is just a protocol like 54Mbps wifi?
Why would 4G help?
To simplify it. Compare it to 2.Ghz Wifi (as the 3G) and 5ghz wifi (as the 4G)
3G use is high, the spectrum is congested and is then affected by what I'll call it 'interference' which slows it down even when the back haul is fine.
Spangly new 5ghz Wifi is less used/congested/contested so allows a better user experience similar to what people will experience with 4G and it's new frequencies..
The second hand effect is there will be less people using the 3G 'band' giving a better user experience there too. So overall using more spectrum with different technologies balances the demand overall. The mast/site/base station isn't saturated as the new backhaul at 4G sites is enough to handle 3G and4G currently so really isn't the issue and it is up scalable quite easily when it shall be needed. Hopefully that makes sense.
My local Base Station isnt 4G equipped and most likely wont be for a few years.
But I have to confess I'm not convinced that 4G will result in extra capacity.
Going on the Wifi Principle, its pretty set and speed issues are usually due to wifi signal or actual broadband speed.
I hope you are right!
But in any case I think its wrong that service is suffering. What happens when 4G reaches capacity too? Surely they need to increase capacity so that 4G doesnt become a sticking plaster?
Yeah that rumor has been banded about if they do that to existing customers there are going to be a lot of upset people myself included.
If this happens I shall look at what the other networks are offering, although admittedly it's usually pretty poor. But a few places I visit now have no Three coverage at all, whereas I at least used to have 2G coverage on my previous network.
The terms and conditions stated unlimited internet with tethering included when i renewed my contract in January nothing in regards to capping on the tethering aspect. So hope it will just for new customers.
Other options for data on other networks are poor but if they limit the data I'll be looking elsewhere.
It would also be bad show as well with everyone being over the moon with just getting 4G in an unlimited state.
That would be awful.
Can they cap tethering for existing customers?
Has anyone contacted Three about this?
If they did that it would be a change in their terms and conditions so you would be able to cancel without paying a penalty.;-)
