Do you use the correct hands for eating?

I'm right handed so mostly use my left hand to hold the fork and my right hand to hold the knife.

Only time I'll use the fork in my right hand is when eating spag Bol, find it almost impossible to eat with the fork in my left hand

I'm the same although I also have the spoon in my right hand when I eat soup :D

I am supposedly right handed as I write with my right hand but do most other things with my left. I eat with the fork in my right hand, I played guitar (when teaching myself a few years back, given up now) left handed and re strung it to suit left handedness, deal cards left handed, open the door left handed.

In any case, surely right handed people should naturally eat with the fork in their right hand?

Oh, I thought this was going to be about actually eating with your hands and how it's taboo to eat with the left hand. Shaytaan eats with his left hand! …or so I was raised to believe.

if I'm not eating with a knife and fork then I use my right hand to hold the utensil as that's my dominant hand? What's the correct hand?

Well I use my own hands and nobody else's hands if that's what you mean?

    I'm right-handed.

When I'm eating, I use the fork probably 90% more than the knife, so I'll hold the fork in my right hand.

Same here. I can't see the sense in the convention of doing it the other way round.

I'm now 60. I remember being "corrected" during school dinners, but always took no notice.

If I use a fork and knife I have the knife in my right hand but if I only use a spoon or a fork I hold them in my right hand. I use my left hand for most things though. I am always getting a row at work for setting the tables on the wrong side (right rather than left).

Interesting I am right handed and use the fork in my right hand as well. Thought I was in a very small minority but I guess not.

I think it's the norm among Americans, even when eating something quite knife-dependent (e.g. cut up meat etc using fork in left hand and knife in right, then put knife down and swap fork to right hand in order to insert food in mouth - no, I don't understand either).

Am left-handed, fork stays in left hand all the time even if a knife is involved.

When eating an overstuffed sandwich, I tend to pick it up with my right hand, hold it together with my left hand, and present it to my mouth with my right hand.

Same here, I think it was because I copied the person opposite me when I was young and just did a mirror image.

Right handed, fork in left and knife in right... I think... I must, it'd be carnage if I tried to use a knife with my left hand.

Although I much prefer vosne's reply, that sounds like much more fun!
