I forgot how young Gareth Gates was when Jordan got her claws into him. Hardly surprising that he lied and denied it. Probably not the best move to make but he was a baby compared to her. Its going to be a tad awkward when the eternal girls meet up. As for Girl Thing--why?
All that bad luck with Kavana's family happened after he frittered away his money on drink and drugs. But I still felt sympathy for him - especially because he's doing honest work to survive, working at this cafe and doing these club gigs, however lowly. He came across well. It's nice he's getting a second chance.
This is what annoys me about the show. The shows creators hype it up like it's another stab at a career but really, the only band I can think of that left and then came back were Take That but it wasn't due to a TV show it was due to popular demand and really excellent new material.
When the Girl Thing girl from the estate kept saying how this has to work for her, she needs this in her life it just made me sad because you know GT won't be able to sustain a career when they couldn't get one in the first place. The songs were cheesy and uninteresting then, having 30-something women sing them doesn't make them better, if anything it makes it sadder.
People who sustain long term careers only do so when they are true artists with incredible songwriting talents. Even people like Lionel Ritchie, Rod Stewart, the Stones, Springsteen etc don't make money off new material they keep going because their older material was always amazing and has real longevity. Can you really say the same about Adam Rickett? The best most of them can hope for is a few musical and stage gigs if they're lucky.

It also annoyed me they showed footage of her slagging him off. Now, yes, how he treated her wasn't great, it must have really hurt her at the time but he was a child. How did Dane Bowers get away with it? He treated her appallingly, in fact so bad I'm at a loss how he's ever managed to find any girl to have sex with him ever again. But again, he seems to get away scot free.
I was at the show at Hammersmith Apollo, and thoroughly enjoyed it 5thStory really went down well and Spirit in the sky was the final number from Gareth couldn't have wished for a better finale, came away on a high. Although I have to admit I'd not heard of Girl Thing and wish they had put someone else in the line up instead. But I did come away thinking Gareth should not be in a group, his vocals were easily picked up in the harmonising. II hope this group doesn't turn out to be really big as he has lots of solo gigs with his own band for later in the year.
About a tour I read in the Sun that 5th Story were going on Tour with Blue but no mention of the others yet.
Michael Jackson's nepews had pics of them all with MJ on the big screen behind them which was a big crowd pleaser.
Eternel were amazing true stars.
But all the groups were good.
Girl Thing were better than I expected but not sure they will make the tour.
Would advise anyone thinking of going to the Tour to go for well worth seeing.
It is being televised in the last episode but I think will be only snippets show and not the full show,
Have to say in favour of Girl Thing they got to sing Pure and Simple which apparently should have been released by them but Simon Cowell gave it to Hearsay. And they made a really good job of it.

excellent post - agree completely. music is about one thing - the material. gareth gates is a case in point that if you dont have the material, you're finished. I watched this week's show and was largely unimpressed, mainly because we are hearing a rehash of similar stories. fleeting fame followed by a fall from grace, dropped by the label etc.
they all claerly want another bite of the apple and I get that but for the most part when your 15 mins is up, it's up. i just dont have enough interest in this line up to watch all the time. ITV needed bands with a higher profile like all saints, s club etc
I thought he came across quiet well, having grown up and had the level-head to set up his own business and make a success of his life outside of the media.
Eternal is what is keeping me watching this series. I'm still surprised they're doing it because I actually thought they were 'above' going down the reality TV route.
I remember that Girl Thing song Last One Standing. I reminded myself of it the other day by watching the video on Youtube. I know it's such a minor thing to be bothered by but everyone says they and the video were a massive rip-off of the Spice Girls. But the Wannabe video was the girls gatecrashing some pretentious gathering of wannabes and social climbers. The Girl Thing video was just a bunch of obnoxious, bratty bitches ruining some poor couples wedding day! When you watch the Wannabe video you're on the girls side and that's why it worked - I know it's just a music video but the story in the Girl Thing video just made them look like awful heifers!

I'm intrigued to know what they've done in the last 15 years to make you think that they're above going down the reality TV route?
My suspicious tell me it's just an excuse to give Jodi Albert airtime. Her husband, ex-Westlife singer Kian Egan, has enjoyed a profile boost after winning I'm A Celebrity, so I think ITV want to make Jodi out to have also been a successful pop star, in order to promote the pair as their new golden couple.
Gareth - mate, your crap material was why you disappeared, not cos of KP. That said, when he said he wanted to keep his sex life a secret it was actually a breath of fresh air!
Kenzie - never was into Blazing Squad, they werent on my radar, obvious 'roid use was the only interesting thing.
Dane - annoyed me how his treatment of KP was 1000x worse than Gareth but somehow he's got off scot free
Adam - I did watch Corrie when he was on it and yes he was a terrible actor. Combined with standing to be a Tory MP I thought he'd be an idiot but I was impressed, I really liked him. His assessment that music used to be more commercialised and you didn't have to have any talent I thought was very true. The late 90's were a weird bubble. Sort of highlighted where Gareth went wrong. Being able to hum a tune doesn't mean squat anymore. I remember first series of Pop Idol they just picked all these good looking people to go thrugh to the next round without hearing them speak.
Kav. OH Kav.... I loved him when I was about 13, he was the bees knees. His story broke my ****ing heart, I actually had to stop watching half way through it upset me so much. When he was at Butlins, all those miserable people standing round... his whole story was like some comedy film, except in the end they manage to turn it around, find some nice supportive partner and a new lease on life. But this isn't a script, it's just reality, and bloody hell it was sad.
But where were his parents in all this?! From what I remember I think his parents were pretty old, like his older sister and him have a 15 year age gap, but they seem to have let him just run riot?! I mean, firstly, letting your 16 year old leave school isn't great, never mind it's just to go and work at McDonalds. Then when his career had ended they let him take off to America and fritter his money away? Why did they not guide him to further education?? Really, after he left Nigel they should have said it's time for Plan B. I think the best thing he could do now is go and study and get some drive, afterall he has a good 30 years of working life ahead of him.... But then, he also hasn't been in formal education for 20 years so I can see it would be hard to get back into.
I feel terrible for him, he must feel very lost and without purpose. God I have tears in my eyes now, it really upset me. All that stuff with the drugs and drinking, it just really hit home.
You see all these kids just lining up to be "discovered" when only 1% have the chance to have a stab and 99% of the 1% disappear frittering away their money and youth and the only thing they know how to do is sing and dance. Oh Kav. God I hope he gets something good from all this.
I also felt very sad for Kavanna going from being a star to being homeless and Gareth was visibly moved by his story as he has a very supportive family who have always been there for him and believed in him. Gareth has been the luckiest of the band but then he has always worked hard and when he was dropped by his record label he never gave up and brought out a very credible album he wrote but unfortunately it did not get the radio airplay so most of the best tracks on the album were not heard by the media,
But then he did DOI and has had a very successful career in Musical theatre both in the west end and touring, just hope we get to see him in more musicals as he has great acting skills besides being a brilliant solo singer.
It also seemed very unfair that Dane Bowers got away with the dalliance with Jorden while poor Gareth didn't, it is understandable that he lied he was only 17 and would have felt embarrassed by it all and didn't want his family knowing as he was a long way from home.
I was there. Bloody brilliant! Just getting to doing a blog on the gig now. Just came on here on the hope someone had posted the setlist, as there are a couple of songs that I don't know the names of!
Gawd knows...this is by far the least interesting episode
I thought last week was appalling. What I watched of it anyway turned it off after about 30 minutes. This was always going to be The Jackson Story rather than 3T though.
Kellie strikes me as the classic pwetty girl who was always used to being treated as a pwincess and grew up to be a bit of a spoilt mare ...I could be way off the mark though ;-)

We used to work out at the same gym and he wasn't averse to showing it off. It was amazing.
I thought he came across quiet well, having grown up and had the level-head to set up his own business and make a success of his life outside of the media.
Blimey, I'm blushing...shame he's not on the show...
