The drop for the flagship itv channel is likely down to how they're scheduling content and a lack of new programme launches. It has been a pretty quiet start to the year for them and it's no real surprise that they haven't matched last year when they had a lot more going on.
What is more concerning for them must be the sharp drops for the digital channels. E4 is unusually close to both itv2 and itv3.
ITV2 has had lower rating returning programmes such as The Big Reunion, Magaluf Weekender etc. plus crap such as 'Wright Around The World' (Mark Wright), or poor imports like Two And a Half Men in the central 8pm slot which brings the entire schedule down. If they remove it, the share will rise. Bad acquisition by them, among other comedy rpts.
ITV3 I don't know - perhaps just worn from constant repeating of old programmes. Perhaps one factor might be caused by the BBC strong drama recently - taking away some potential viewers.

Perhaps UKTV's new channel Drama, which is available on Freeview, has had an impact. So when viewers are looking for something to fill an empty gap in their schedule, some of those who would have gone to ITV3 may have found a more preferred drama on Drama.

Its all a bit of mess really.
Maybe they are just taking their eye off the ball with all this talk of extra channels for no apparent reason. You cant help but feel that these new channels are likely to impinge on ITV2 and 3 a lot as well.

For ITV2 they do seem to be taking their eye off the ball and trying to make new programmes ready with a loyal following to transfer to ITVBe so that channel isn't a flop at launch, but are forgetting that once those shows go (TOWIE and its spin offs, Magaluf Weekender etc), what will ITV2 actually be left with? As for ITV3, it may just be a case of burning out repeats.

I agree, its just been poor recently. Hopefully eventually when TAAHM ends they can start again. Thankfully reliable ratings banker CJ is returning, but even that was starting to show a decline last series.
When ITV3 repeat Broadchurch I imagine it will do quite well with viewers who missed the event wanting to catch up.
ITV Be can't come soon enough for them really as it's as if ITV2 has a split personality at the moment. On the one hand they are trying to go more upmarket with the US sitcoms but on the other they put out a schedule this Sunday consisting of Educating Joey Essex followed by TOWIE followed by Party Wright Around The World, a lineup so frightful and pitched so narrowly it's enough to give one nightmares.

And enough to make the channel look like a joke. Who on earth would give Joey Essex his own show? Only ITV2. Thankfully its a one-off

Those three programs certainly always give me nightmares.:)
Impressive to see all six returning BBC One dramas posting rises in their series averages (although in three cases that is a provisional result).
D.M.N., if you have them handy can you please give us the consolidated ratings for Edge of Heaven on 21 February?
Episode one on 21/02/14 overnighted at 2.56m (11.7%) / 2.73m (12.5%) and consolidated to ????. (It was 2.87m exc HD, exc +1.)
Episode two on 28/02/14 overnighted at 1.80m (8.3%) / 1.94m (8.9%) and consolidated to 2.14m / 2.39m.
Episode three on 07/03/14 overnighted at 1.34m (6.3%) / 1.49m (7.0%). (Consolidated figure is out this Saturday.)
There is some delightful irony in that - Educating Joey Essex is only a one off.
And as much of an idiot he may be he is an idiot which usually makes good viewing (unlike Mark Wright), though the joke may wear very thin with his own show.

You could be on to something, Iain. Drama launched on 8 July 2013. Graph showing monthly channel shares for ITV3 and Drama:
I mentioned this because I truly believe it deserves a wider audience far more than the bland tripe BBC1 seems to be pumping out these days, and also because I think it would sit quite comfortably on BBC1. Unlike most BBC2 dramas I think this one would make the transition quite smoothly.
Yeah there would be no real problem in moving "Line Of Duty" to a much wider audience on BBC one and I think series two should have been the series to have made that jump.
The ratings have been good on BBC TWO but id like to have seen how gripped the rest of the audience would have been on primetime BBC one, particularly in Sunday evenings or Mondays where they played out War documentaries and "The Musketeers". I think Agent is right when he says it could have easily made the transfer and I dont really see the difference between this and other BBC one drama they screen.
They missed an opportunity to promote a very gripping series to the BBC audience and made unusual scheduling decisions with this series against crime drama on itv and Channel 5 and important football matches, rather than running it against itvs "Bletchley Circle" "Mr Selfridge" "Edge of Heaven".
I dont see how its so particular to BBC TWO. Mercurio said it went under consideration for BBC one for series one. Setting aside plots etc. Mercurio has created some of the more interesting television characters we have seen lately.
Axe BBC3 now rather than wait until late 2015 just in time for Charter renewal negotiations, its not needed, nobody watches it, complete waste of time.
Some might ask what went wrong with Episode 3:D:D:p
I think quite a few people saw the rating for episode 3 and thought Death on Paradise would trend downwards. But then the massive jump for episode 4 came along. Nobody expected that timeshift. From episode 4 it was getting monster timeshifts and never looked back.

Looks a poor start for L&O UK then. Even if it does ex +1.

You've got BBC on the brain

Thanks for the figures lewiep, DiP as you say is so consistent throughout the entire run.
Just shows how wrong I was when pre series I was thinking of a high end for Ben, then a steady decline as Kris turned the viewers away......

What is?
I don't have the money to waste on a Digital Radio for the very rare occasions that I listen to Digital Radio Channels and why should I have to.
Hmmm The Bletchley Circle really bombed there didn't it heh.
(extreme Sarcasm mode)
