When we got civil partnered (and so can't now get married!) we were told no malarkey like this as marriage and unions are serious and can't be entered into frivolously or indeed quite so campy, not that we wanted to put on a musical. Our ceremony was in Scotland, maybe it's different in England but I hope we are not moving too much to US-style bad taste themed weddings with hobbits and puppies dressed up or some such thing!

I once went to a Wicca gay wedding years ago, long before even civil partnerships were legal. It was on a hillside in Cumbria on a drizzly day, officiated by a druid with shoulder length grey hair and beard, wearing what looked like a Lord of the Rings fancy dress costume.

Changing expectations and the vows being sung are my favourite parts so far.

For this to be a true musical, should there be a death of a major character in the second act, all to be resolved before the big final number?

    :D

I am enjoying it. I think it's quite sweet and they've obviously put a lot of thought into making it memorable. I don't think it's especially 'camp' either - it's just fun.

Also, I wish people would stop referring to people as "gays" and "straights". We're all human.

It's getting it out there and really pissing off a few homophobes I bet, so all is good.

Normal people's same sex marriages will look a bit boring following this so won't be seen as a big fuss after this.

Well for them it's a serious marriage: For us it's entertainment and celebration of an historic day.

Well it's not Las Mis, but fitting to have something different for an historic event.

(Just watch the straights nicking bit from this! :D )
