I am in my forties and I am dreading reaching the big 50 because a friend of mine told me it was all downhill from there.
I need cheering up ...

It may be downhill for some of course, but for me it is great.
Nothing like breaking it gently!:D
No it's not all downhill from there. I think you've got another decade to go and I'm envious
Of course that's going to be the case as people live longer and are fitter longer.
I am now 9 months into the 'project' and doubt I have every felt fitter in my life, I can run further and faster than I could 10 years ago, I am ideal weight for my height and build, and for the first time in my life have a toned almost muscular body. So 50 bring it on!! I feel good happy and relaxed about being 50 in a couple of years.
Exactly! At least you still have a reasonably good chance of still being alive in your 50's Pandora. What is not to like.
Denial starts at 40. Physical and mental deterioration, diminishing energy, far-sight, aches and pains, faltering metabolism, skin and muscles determined to sag, hair loss in the places there ought to be hair while freak hairs appear in other places - which are invariably white.
Life starts at 17 or so.
I'm always here to cheer you up.
You and the Wizard do just a fine job too in cheering her up jra. You deserve a medal. At least you put a smile on my face .
My mum died when she was well into her 90s and was bright to the end, so fingers crossed..:o
Physically, things do start to go south - of course. But there is much more to being in your 50s than only physical health, isn't there (although of course that is important)? I'm much more confident than I used to be, can afford to work part-time, and the kids are largely off our hands. I have more freedom and more energy than when I was in my 40s as well as a greater spirit of adventure. I'm much more inclined to do things on impulse as far as I am able. Also - the need to be Cool and to hang onto Yoof has gone. I can be me, and that's very liberating
No!
At 40 I could still out-dance anyone in the local nightclub. now, at 52, I can't walk the few hundred meters into town without panting and my dodgy knee giving way.
On good days it's not too bad but on bad days I have no idea how I'm possible going to make it to 70ish.
Bleugh!!
You love it. You know you do.
It's all very positive.
I'm such a liar ;-)
You look a lot older babe ;-)
