So I presume you do not watch any BBC television at all, listen to any BBC radio broadcasts. use BBC iPlayer, read BBC News online ?

Not much - 5 live is by far the most listened to BBC product for me.Would be happy to give a tenner per year on a subscription basis.:)

&/ or listen to a few ads.

I would like to add my agreement to this. If it wasn't for the BBC we would not get some of the great specialist programmes such as one on the history of chemistry or great history programmes such as the Plantagenets by Prof Robert Bartlett. They would not appeal to a majority audience and would not be made if it wasn't for the BBC. After all, the BBC's mission is "to enrich people's lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain".

I'm not so sure about that .Certainly that's what they want us to believe..I personally suspect that there's quite a few other organisations that could produce the goods - re history .NHK the Japanese government channel does a ton of stuff on chemistry .Actually its already subtitled - so good to go:)

Steve read out a message from Ms Burley this morning asking him not to slag off her chum Christine Bleakley. I wonder if she still got the chocolate bunny he'd bought her. :D

I rarely have anything to do with the Beeb. I'm not a big TV fan anyway, and I don't listen to their radio programmes. So I resent paying a fee as high as £145.50. Last year they whipped the whole amount out of my bank account without any warning. They did that thing called ASSUME because I'd paid the total in one hit the year before. I'd wanted to change to monthly direct debits, not given the choice I thought it was a flippin' cheek.

I have always paid by DD. I suggest contacting them now and asking them to change over for next year.

On the subject of the license fee. I wonder how much extra it would cost per person if every tax payer contributed towards the BBC, instead of a license fee, so that the BBC received the same level of income?

I presume those that don't pay any tax now, would not pay (whereas at present they have to pay the license fee).

Cannot people spell 'licence'. This is the noun, license is the verb I.e. to licence a car then I'll have a licence for it.
    Pedantic or what?

DDs can be a right pain in the derriere - £145 is fairly extortionate for what you get.

LBC is the way to go - funded by dodgy ambulance chasing lawyers and Galliard homes:)

I've been in my element for these last nine evenings, nine glorious evenings in the company of Nick Abbot. He showed two totally different personas during that time as, from Sunday to Thursday, there were no sound effects and callers were allowed to speak, except for the one who he lost his cool with because he started off okay and then started to lecture, spacing his words as if he was stood on a soapbox. I got the feeling that Nick didn't much like him as he told us that the listener called in every evening. Come Friday and Saturday, all was back to (NA) normal.

I'm now looking forward to once again hearing Duncan's dulcet tones, I hope he's had a good holiday and is feeling refreshed and ready for another long stint. Here's hoping that our Nick covers for his next, well earned, break.

Yes, HHGTTG, pedantic, unnecessary and against the Rules and Regulations. I hope you feel better for that. I wish that I was as clever as you. :kitty:

Larry the so-called Lamb wants children to start school at two like they do his beloved rural France. He would do though, anything to ensure they are indoctrinated with his champagne socialism clap-trap.

The BBC spent 4 million pounds on art installation at the new HQ and yet people are jailed for not paying their tax. Utterly indefensible. I would rather have the choice of what I pay for or listen to LBC.

They should call it the 'Larry the so-called Lamb Amateur Hour', this is awful radio. Clicky off.

Yes, he has shown two very different sides and both very enjoyable. He did actually explain to one caller on Friday that the sound effects go because when he's covering it's 'not his show' . I suppose people tune in expecting a certain type if show so it makes sense. Someone tuning in expecting to hear Duncan Barkes won't be expecting to hear 'groovy' and 'BORING!' Whilst discussing the Maria Miller situation :D

As for the licence fee debate ... I think if you own a TV then you pay a licence and when you want to watch anything on BBC iPlayer then you put your account number in and you can watch it ... If yours don't have a TV , no licence but if you want to watch iPlayer you have to pay as you watch kind of thing .... Doesn't seem that difficult to me

Not pedantic, but a good call - my view.
I'm normally the first to get upset with bad typos. I'm glad you pointed it out.

Good 2 hear Ian with Charlie Wolf last night, maybe he could present a show on LBC some time soon.

Agreed. A great show. Ian's news panel is my favourite LBC show. And there are no callers. Could that be why?

Good to hear Clive anchoring the Ian Collins show tonight. I thought it had got a bit ruderless of late.

I don't agree. And when it came to the news panel, I found Clive embarrassing. It's very much Ian's creation..he's very much a part of it, whereas Clive sounded like an outsider.

There is a name for a place where two year olds spend their days away from the parents, it is called an orphanage. I won't take credit for this, Paul Ross stated this on his breakfast show a couple of weeks ago, a sentiment with which I entirely agree. I wish Paul Ross would return to LBC, sadly not much chance of that.

I heard the start of the "alcoholics getting liver transplant" discussion. Embarrassing. Does he not plan the interviews (I use the term lightly) he conducts? Stilted, long silences where he gathers this thoughts, stuttering out questions, ricocheting all over the place.

He is not improving with practise and is totally out of his depth.

Not sure you're right about that, HHGTTG.

Licence and license are correct. Licence is the UK spelling, license is the US spelling. Both terms would be acceptable these days.

Good point and maybe so. I didn't get that far with listening. I switched off after the techie spot with Will Guyer. The show had lost it's way for me by then.
