Not really. I'm sure some of that sort of thing still goes on but the area has changed massively in the last 5 years or so with a huge amount of redevelopment going on.

No. The area has been cleaned up and regenerated.

King's Cross has been completely regenerated. It's totally different to what it was 5 years ago. There really is nowhere for the "street walkers" to ply their trade anymore with lights everywhere.

Just wait until Google open their new UK office on the land around the back of Kings Cross station and the huge new Francis Crick Institute is finished next to St Pancras. There will be then several thousand more techies and scientists in the area.

Sexually frustrated and with lots of disposable income. The cards will be back in the telephone boxes.

Well, until you cross the road from the station anyway. My company has a small project office just over the road from the station. In the mornings the team has to step over the tramps to get in and in the evening they have to dodge the hookers on the way out.

It seems the regeneration stopped at the kerbside outside the station :)

There are even plans for an outdoor swimming pool (or "pond") behind Kings Cross: http://now-here-this.timeout.com/2014/04/08/kings-splosh-natural-swimming-pond-coming-to-nc1/

When I caught a train from there last year, the cards were still in the phone boxes.

When was the last time anyone actually used a phone box?

There's still the odd "adult" cinema left if that's your thing. Doubt they'll be around much longer though so fill your boots while you can!

Indeed they are. For those who think the sex industry has completely vanished from King's Cross - the Flying Scotsman is still very much alive, there are also still a few brothels around but they operate so discreetly you wouldn't have a clue they were there if you are just passing through the area.

And then there is a...I don't really know what you call them, a dark pit? You enter a room that is pitch dark, where you can have sex with total strangers without seeing them. Not my idea of fun but there you go :D

Apart from the above King's Cross is now considered so desirable that estate agents are falling over themselves to describe a property as "King's Cross" even though in reality it's in or near the not quite so glamorous Bemerton Estate. If you want to see a truly depressing hell-hole, then the Bemerton is very much the way to go.

I used to work down the road from there. A couple of junior colleagues wandered in there one night, thinking it was just an ordinary pub.
