Filming in Bampton to take place on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th April according to a resident. Carnival have sent residents a letter to this effect. The resident said he normally gets a good view of things so hopes to be able to post a few pics.
I agree that the "barrage of grief" on social media (for Sybil too, not just Matthew) spurred them to release info. I still wish they would do it again, though. I hate not having any spoilers. Frankly it makes me worry something horrible will happen at the start of the season, just for shock value and to keep twitter buzzing.
Yes almost certain to be something happen this series, whether its a death or another incident. Allen Leech remarked around the time filming commenced there was something in the episode 1 script he hadn't expected and I think he said saddened him. Of course that could be a red herring. I think he quite enjoys misleading viewers.
As the viewing figures were good for the last series its possible the powers that be just feel less need this time around to "spoil viewers". A few pics would give us something to speculate about.
I'm hoping the Christmas special this year is actually set at Christmas and not in the height of summer.
I didn't mind the trip to Scotland or the last CS although another Christmas based one would be nice. It would be a good ending to the very final CS whether that be at the end of S5 or possibly S6 if there is one. One problem with filming the CS is they now film from February to August and it's hard to film an outdoor Christmassy scene in the middle of August, although I suppose they could photo-shop it. The outdoor scenes and upstairs scenes for the 2012 CS were filmed in late October early November and even then the trees were still more or less in leaf so July / August is a bit tricky.
Having said filming in Bampton Thurs / Friday it looks as though they've bought the date forward, as they've been filming at Bampton and Cogges Farm today. At Bampton filming scenes in the churchyard around Matthew's gravestone and possibly Sybil's. Michelle posted a pic on instagram of two cows' so guess she's at the farm. Wonder whose with her!! There was talk during the last series of going into dairy farming. Hope someone sneaks some pics just of the characters in costume.
Forgot to mention Cogges Farm is closed to the public today. Reopens tomorrow.
Here are the first pics from today's filming in Bampton. Not a lot to read from them apart from Robert, Violet and Isobel are all in normal (for that period) clothes so judging by that there not there for a funeral. Thank goodness.:)
An article in the Witney Gazette a local newspaper covering Bampton and surrounding areas says villagers have been told by Carnival Films that they'll be back next year for S6:
I will give it a try for the start of Series 5 but to be honest it is going to have to be a whole lot better than the last one. I found it predictable and a bit dull and think the best possible outcome would be some new blood in the writing department as I feel that Fellowes may have run out of ideas. Danger of becoming too soapy was rather high saved only by some decent acting performances.

I felt S4 was a resetting series and I didn't mind that, in fact I enjoyed it. Where S5 goes it's hard to say, as so few spoilers or leaks have come out so far. We've had the odd pics from the location shoots but can't read much from them other than speculate.
Just looking at the photo's in the daily mail, I noticed that his lordships labrador could not take his eyes of Hugh Boniville, he his at his side alot. Wondered if it was Hugh's real dog.
Hope series 5 is better than last year. Tom I would prefer with either Edith or Daisy than the teacher.
Hope Mary is in the back ground more this series, she always seem to be quite heavy involved with most of the story lines. Would like to see the outcome of Edith and what happened to her fella
It looks as though Lily James (Rose) is leaving or taking a break from the show. According to reports Disney want her next spring to do a worldwide publicity trip for Cinderella so she will miss S6 or most of it, with the possibility of a return for the CS. She will not be killed off:
It looks as though Michelle will be riding again in either episode 5 or 6, as they are filming these over the next few weeks. A brief video of her practising, from instagram:
It wouldn't suprise me if Lily James did leave Downton abbey in the next year or so. When i read she has been cast in Cinderella, i expected it to be a big hit and make her into a big movie star. I adore Rose but I never saw her as a long term character. She has a short shelf life imo. For her to pop up once or twice a series would be nice.
I am still holding out for an appearance from O'Brien in the future. Even if it's just one episode or one scene.

It would be nice to see O'Brian come back before the final episode and get her comeuppance. Also Rose to reappear. I believe the reason for her absence is Disney want her to do a world-wide publicity tour. This is quite an expensive film so they will want it to be a success.
According to an article in today's DM about twins in TV shows / films, the mother of Cole and Logan who played baby George has apparently said that Logan didn't take to Julian Ovenden. That's probably why he was crying during the scene in the library during tea, where Blake held him:
I can't wait for the new series of Downton. I love that feeling of summer ending and Autumn beginning, Downton on a dark Sunday evening in front of the fire. Just bliss.

Yes it does sound like Julian Ovenden. He I think I read somewhere is a proficient horse rider. Perhaps he was practising side-saddle LOL.
