1) Red wine
2) Pen & paper
3) My mum (not being a 21stCentutyMummy'sBoy but I genuinely don't know what I'd do without her at the end of the phone sometimes)
Assuming you had just basic food, clothing, water, heat, medical supplies and shelter plus your family and friends what 3 other things could you not live without?
For me:
1) Internet
2) Hair straighteners
3) Marmite ( think I am actually addicted to it)
Non of what has been mentioned in this thread, most of which are luxuries, rather than being necessities.
If you have to go without a PC, TV, car, phone, washing machine, dishwasher etc. (*) then you do so and adapt. Life is going to be more difficult, but you can live without most of these materialistic things and survive. It's sad that most of us in the western world worry about whether we have the latest and greatest mobile phone and are pre-occupied with materialistic goods, while at the same time in other parts of the world some people are struggling just trying to survive (staying alive, life or death situation). Westerners generally lead pampered lives, and all these possessions we have, we don't really need, if push comes to shove.

(*) Ketchup, diet coke. You've got to be joking.
You've not really got the hang of this thread have you?

Probably not, but thread opening post taken as read.

The point being is that, what you couldn't live without is usually more accurately described as things you are used to, but essentially don't really need in reality.
Me lightening up is chargeable. That'll be £50. Cheques are not acceptable.

I think the thread was intended to be a light hearted one, rather than anything too deep. ;-)
It seems many people haven't got the hang of the thread though - several have named their loved ones even though the OP said the following!

Indeed. The OP has named most of the essential things. Most of the rest are luxuries, i.e. things you could live without, if push comes to shove. The west is decadent. Things that we say we couldn't live without have a very different definition to those from some other parts of the world. Call me a party pooper, but I appreciate that many people are not as fortunate as me and I realise I am privileged to live where I do and don't take things for granted.
