We've had 2 rest days and this thread has disappeared onto page 2 in the a broadcasting forum! Sort it out Blatter, come on guy.
Anyway, there was an interesting short chat about the coverage on BBC, ITV and ESPN on Colin Murray's talksport show this morning, around 11.45am if anyone wants to listen on the website. They agreed that Danny Murphy was amongst the standout performers so far and explained Robbie Savage's role as 'fan like us but with a little bit more insight'.
Love to know who they thought came out on top regarding presenters, commentators etc.

The focus seemed more to be about ex-players as pundits really but did discuss the above. They rightly dismissed the harsh OTT criticism Chiles gets from twitter and TV columnists as boring, particularly about his looks, fat legs in shorts etc. Steve Bunce hinted that he thinks some people are there because they've never been challenged for their position before, which sounded like he was nudging towards a criticism of Gary Lineker from my understanding as he said about ex-pros presenting. More appropriate for Lawro.
They also seemed to insinuate, without specifically naming, that they found it difficult hearing a World Cup being analysed in play by players who have been nowhere near this level of football at club or country level (Clarke Carlisle and Robbie Savage you would think in the main).
Murray wanted Henry on co-comms as it's the majority of viewers watch the 90 mins more than the studio stuff but Didi Hamann explained very well that it's not just about the insight, it's the voice that counts. He said Irish and Scottish voices are synonymous with co-commentary for him. Henry wouldn't be suited to commentary for me.
It is as far as it goes, but it suffers from the same problem as most of Barwick's columns: it looks like it started as an excellent longer article that has been hacked to pieces by a sub editor who is short of space.
That would at least explain your apparent hatred for all things ITV. Of course anyone who bought shares in e.g. early 2010 might hold a different view.
I bought mine in 2008 and am now VERY happy with them. VERY
Germany v France - BBC - Jonathan Pearce and Mark Lawrenson
Colombia v Brazil - ITV - Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend
Argentina v Belgium - ITV - Sam Matterface and Clark Carlisle
Netherlands v Costa Rica - BBC - Guy Mowbray and Danny Murphy

On current form that is the worst possible line up for the Germany game on BBC, don't know if I can take another 90mins of monotone Lawrenson and hysterical Pearce.
Pearce already grating and we haven't kicked off. "Those players have been made to stand in the sunshine for an awful long time." (In case youre wondering, anti-discrimination messages were read out before kick-off). Yes Pearce, and they're going to be playing in it for 90 minutes as well. Dear me.
Now criticising FIFA's player rankings system. Totally irrelevant to the game. This really is a nightmare commentary pairing imo. Pearce doesn't deserve a game of this magnitude after his performances so far.
Pearce and Lawrenson have also criticised one of the assistant referees throughout the first half for no particular reason. He hasn't even made any bad decisions. Worst commentary of the tournament this for me.
Jonathan Pearce just said Germany haven't won a major title "since 1996, a barren run of 28 years".
Erm, what?
If Steve Wilson doesn't get a live Semi Final and Pearce got this game over him it will be one of the worst decision's by the BBC during the World Cup, infact they will need their heads testing.
Shocking performance by the pair of them, infact Pearce really does seem as if just wants to get on a plane home as quick as possible.>:(

EDIT: Still moaning. This is dreadful.
Why do the BBC have these miserable old gits on their books?
And they just joked about it. Lineker brought it up. It appears all is well now .
I really like Lawro normally as a pundit and his predictions on the BBC website.
The combination of those two makes it even worse, whinge, moan and whinge and then they agree on their whinge.
No, they are very much agreeing with the sceptical!:):D
I just hope there isn't some goalline technology incident to upset Pearce again.
And I know it's been said before but Lawro is such a misery. Please BBC lose him alongside Hansen after this World Cup.

Sorry Bosox didn't see your similar post earlier.
