Hello everyone, & welcome to the 55th DSFE contest, live once again from St Helier, the only decent sized town on beautiful Jersey. The first DSFE waves broke on Jersey shores back in contest 28, & now we're back for more after the island's second win thanks to DSFE newbies Ivy & Gold & this incredible song.
So let's start with THE NORMAL RULES
•The song mustn't exceed five minutes in length.
•Former Eurovision stars are allowed, but cannot be with the same song they performed in the contest, or at any national pre-selection.
•The song cannot have appeared in the UK Top 40
•The song mustn't have been used in DSFE already.
•The artist must be from your country or have ties through parents or grandparents. If the tie is unclear, please give me the information you have so I can ensure it is acceptable.
Please remember to check the DSFE wiki before sending your song, you don't want your entry to be turned down, do you.
You're all my eyes & ears for rule-breakers, so if you spot something dodgy, please let me know.
ABOUT COUNTRIES
When I get the country list, I'll divide them into 4 pots by seeding alone. TerryP is being lovely & coming up with the seedings for me to use.
When I start drawing, there'll be 17 countries in Pots 1 & 4, & 18 in Pots 2 & 3. 17 players will be drawn randomly to get a Pot 1 & 4 pair, & 18 will be drawn for pots 2 & 3. So the ones that get best good countries will get worst bad countries. I'll then draw everyone's countries from their pots. Yorkshire & Bavaria, our 2 new countries, are both in pot 2.
ABOUT YEARS
I've come up with a compromise - Pot 1 & 2 countries will have cutoff 2010, but the harder pot 3 & 4 countries remain under the old 2000 rules.
ABOUT FORMAT
As I said last night, there'll be 5 regional qualifiers with 14 each, 8 going through. Then 2 semis with 20 each & 12 going through to a 24 song final. I aim to open Qualifier 1 on Friday, then one each day, with results next Monday-Friday. I'll sort the qualifiers when I've got the country list.
ABOUT SIGNUPS
THIS CONTEST IS OPEN! PM ME NOW! As you've probably gathered, having 70 countries is important to the format so signups are open until we have 35 players, or until Monday morning, whichever is first. If needed, I'll take part, but I want to give others the chance first. 2 players are in, Stan & Beth, so 33 to go.
I think that's all. I hope this contest goes well, that there's lots of conversation again, but as I said last night, cockups may happen, I hope they don't though
So off we go. Be careful, because remember, this town could come for you.

I think that Yorkshire should have been saved for UK Vision, but that's just me.
If he can pick, we should all be able to pick.
I want Albania.
For once I side with brb. Bavaria is totally pointless. So is Yorkshire.
Not that it's the hosts fault, anyone who's hosted knows how tough it is to squeeze as many countries in as possible. Yorkshire just seems like a step too far
I would withdraw if the countries got too ridiculous... If Yorkshire and Bavaria are pushing it, these are off the scale.
As long as I have time to vote before then...
I mean, I can always look at results on my IPod
