For months now, every time I go to Facebook, I see, at the top of "People You May Know", some old dude with whom I have NO mutual friends.
Finally I have worked out who he is. He is somebody who bought an item from me on ebay about ten years ago! I have never had any other contact with him.
Now apart from the fact that this is really creepy >:( - because
1. my FB account is not in my real name, and
2. it is registered under a different email address from my ebay account
- is there any way I can remove him from this suggestion list?
I do not really use FB, precisely because of crap like this, but I need to have the account in order to have access to a couple of local community sites.

Or, if you have Adblock, click on 'hide this ad' and the whole feature goes away.
I couldn't see a little x ..... and I do have Adblock ....
but I haven't clicked a thing and it's gone more creepiness
I don't doubt it, but that's not the explanation in this case. I have had loads of different IP addresses over 10 years
How would you know ;-)
7 degrees of separation then
Isn't it a site to advertise how you'd like to be seen, rather that how you actually are, with a few fake photos to boot?
good point haha.
Though it does make you sound like you're up to no good!
If there were lots of other people with the same name as me, I wouldn't be worried, but I have a relatively uncommon name and I don't like the thought of certain people searching for me if you know what I mean. ;-)
It amazes me how careless a lot of people are on sites like FB, you know, telling everyone all their business and when they're away on holiday etc etc. Hello burglars, help yourselves ...
They must think that if they advertise there wares its a possibility that someone of some corporate importance will note them and their dream of being 'discovered' will come true. How deluded
It could be that by chance he uses the same community sites as you, and its shown him because its identified your ip number's. You can always go to BLOCK and type his name in, but i bet it said People you may know by his name.
Why f. f. Facebook?
My name isn't really Juan Kerzhoff. Now you do.
Lots of my friends do, so they don't come up in a search. Some companies actively look for staff members /potential employees on Facebook, to see what they're like. My company sent a group email with their social media policy outlined and almost everyone removed their full names after that.
One thing is for sure, it won't be the "old dude's" fault that you see him under "people you may know".
There are literally hundreds of people under "people you may know" on my facebook. Most of them I have no clue who they are. It really doesn't bother me that much. I hardly ever look at the list, and certainly wouldn't be that precious about myself that I'd feel the need to remove anyone.
It's to do with the way facebook operates. Maybe they scan all your e mail accounts, or he is on one of the same community sites as you. Blame facebook, not the poor old sod you unreasonably malign as creepy.
To be fair to the OP I don't think they actually said the old guy was creepy.
They were saying the situation of him appearing in her Facebook was creepy.
As you say he's appeared because of how FB works and it's relentless aim to spread like a virus.
Most of the staff I'm our place are all friends with the management being honest, but that is a valid point
You can stop people searching for you and make your profile private. I do this, and only have people on facebook that I actually want to keep in touch with.
I know, the amount of people i've seen slagging off where they work is unreal. Surely it is just common sense not to write that on the internet!
If the only people you add are ones you know personally and family then of course you would know if they were using a fake name or not.
