Anyone see Newsnight just then? They had a live link to St Helena, the residents of the island were expressing their disappointment at not being able to watch the ceremony due to the S African tv company making some last minute scheduling changes. They don't know how lucky they are!!
Your post was one of the best of the evening You're welcome in Suffolk where I live ! Don't forget if Salmond annexes Scotland we'll be building Hadrian's wall another 20 ft higher, so get a move on
Did I tell you how much I LOVE Suffolk? Even the weather there is still decent in September. Hadrian's wall is easy. I'll just re-watch The Two Towers. Not even Soapy Salmond can stop me!
The black singer in the red dress. She was wonderful. The athletes' parade was good, but then it's hard to cock that up anyway. The Scottie dogs were also great. Everything else was quite spectacularly mediocre.
The classy woman singer is called Pumeza.
Hazel Irvine `She was born in South Africa and won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music aged ................... aaarrrrrrgggg.
Not about the opening ceremony - but apparently a Welsh boxer has been banned from the Games for beating someone up. The irony - beating people up being the point of the sport he wanted to compete in.:D
As a Glaswegian I can't stress how embarrassed I am at this shambles. The minute Karen Dunbar with her flared nostrils and gurning face appeared my fears were realised - we were going to embarrass ourselves in front of the world.
As if that isn't enough viewers have had to endure the entire night incessant back patting about how friendly and down right amazing Glasgow and it's people are. I love Glasgow but I've never heard a host nation praise itself quite like we did tonight. It was excruciating.
Now please excuse me, I have an English accent to work on while I pack my suitcase for Devon.
Most people on a global scale don't know much about Scotland aside from whisky, drunken football hooligans and golf courses. At least they put a positive spin and pointed out it is actually a decent place worth a visit. You never know it may improve the economy North of the border.

Let me guess you watched it start to finish as a form of self punishment.....congratulations, you get post of the evening in the irony category
Night folks. Has anyone heard of those weird phenomenon's where people go to sleep and wake up thinking they're Ukrainian or something? Fingers crossed!

Suffolk's lovely, it's got one of the lowest rainfalls of any county in England , & Salmond never comes here !

They'll claim it for Scotland too. The portrayal of the Glasgow accent and culture as being the 'Scottish' accent and culture is embarrassing.

Apparently African children have started fundraising to help the Glasgow organisers pay for something better for the closing ceremony.
That explains why our one was relatively quiet over in the Commonwealth section. Surprised DS didn't merge them over.

They must be saving the Proclaimers for the closing ceremony. Nothing else can explain their absence.
I know. I was wondering where everybody had got to.
We had fun over there though, eh.

Well... apart from them seeing the script and running a mile (or 500 miles even)
I expect the Proclaimers will close the Games - after they present the medals for the 500 mile walk which starts tomorrow in John O Groats!:D

I couldn't turn away, glad I stuck with it for the glorious hilarity of the baton balls up!
Also: I live in Glasgow, after hearing about the games for the last 7 years I kinda felt the need to give it a go.
The electro one? Chvrches - 'The Mother We Share'. Fine young Glaswegian band.
More than you think ....

yes, thank you!!
brilliant song
Bit of a nasty thing to say!
I prefer the statue of Donald Dewar that keeps having his spectacles pinched even after the plinth was raised to put it out of reach.
