Very sad, there aren't many piers that are still open to the public left in the UK. Hope it can be saved, but the most recent pictures don't look good.
Thats a shame, we used to go regularly to Eastbourne when I was a lad:(
You would've thought they'd have a decent sprinkler system since water is all around:(

Looks quite bad.

Judging by that photo at 4:18pm, its looking impossible to save.
Such a shame. Hope it was an accident rather than done on purpose.
That link is real time time news from the local area (Twitter) - looks like its beyond saving now......fire crews have pulled back a little
However you dont do insurance jobs in main season, during the day.
Hope no one was injured, or worse.:(
If it had happened then ...

It was in the wall paneling of the arcade so could be electrical.
The trouble is they are all mostly wooden structures and in this heat they are timber fire risks.

That was some years ago. It's now been rebuilt.
Here we go again are Piers safe. They cost lots of money too maintain.
No cos they are made out of piles of old wood that can go up very quickly

It's a lovely old structure - but like so many other piers lost in recent years, one made of rotting and very flammable wood.
Again, at least it's a minor consultation that it's the arcade and not the main structure. Hopefully it's insured and repairable (unlike Hastings).
