So with the free London Underground WIFI and Threeintouch launched this week, does this mean I can make calls and text at Underground stations plus internet?
I presume you are on Virgin Media? I thought that Three was the only network that doesn't offer LU free wifi?

The same is true for all networks though. All of the coverage maps have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

This is what I get outdoors in a 'pink' 4G area on Three's map:

I do think the map can be quite misleading for certain places.

Can anybody help ? When it says 4G will be with you within 3 Months, does it actually take 3 months ?

    Thanks

Without wishing to sound facetious, there's nothing set as an absolute, so there's no way of knowing.

Your and my areas could both say "within 3 month" because we are part of a wider area they are upgrading.

I might get mine on day 1, you get yours on day 90.

    It'll happen when it happens.

Can't get the 3 coverage map to show 4G anymore, cleared cache and cookies but just the basic 3G map.

Hard to tell. But in my experience so far, it's always been within that period. Hopefully you won't end up the exception!

I assume the change to the '3 months' comes when the jobs are booked and all the necessary permissions granted, equipment ready to go etc.

Otherwise you'll get the default message.

In Bath at least, the "3 months" message only appeared AFTER I started getting a 4G signal on my phone. About a week after that the coverage checker changed to show the "3 months" message. And now it has changed again to show the "you have coverage" message, but the map itself hasn't been updated yet.

Same in Cardiff, I had 4g before the 3 months status on the coverage checker, During this time I had to force it with LTE only mind you.

Speakingon the positive results, Dave Dyson, CEO of Three said: 'We have delivered a huge amount in a short space of time and I am particularly proud of the positive improvements we have continued to make to our customers experience.' He pointed out that the network recently won awards for its 3G and 4G network coverage.

Really? Awards for 4G network coverage?

    Must be referring to this
Three has won for the fourth year running.

We came top of every test for both 3G and 4G for our speeds and coverage.

What are threes plans for evolving 4G? Obviously EE are using carrier aggregation, do three have enough spectrum?

They'll have a bit more spectrum to use from October 2015 and potentially they could aggregate it with their 800MHz slice although that might not be a priority for them. Technically their holding might not let them compete with EE or Vodafone on outright speed but I think for what they want to do, they'll be absolutely fine.
