Sadly McMillan cancer charity hijacked the challenge, some people are giving the money to them instead of MND.
Not only that but I have seen people saying they will be giving to other charities as well. I suppose if they actually do then its not a bad thing, but it seems a shame to me that a charity that does not get a lot of attention comes up with a way to raise awareness and it starts to miss out, especially when another charity starts doing the same thing.
The text number I sent the iced 55 message along with the amount but haven't received a conformation text. Not really an issue it's just you normally get one when donating through text just worried I've got the text wrong and that they haven't got the money kinda defeats the purpose if I've cocked up the donation bit.
Oh I dont doubt the figures. But if I did the challenge, I would state the charity I was donating to and the amount.
Not one post on my FB feed quoted either.
That's not to say they didnt donate but I find it strange they didnt quote either
Well we're obviously seeing different crops of videos because, again, all of those I've seen talk about the cahrity. The most recent video is a friend mixing herself a margarita on the rocks. And I have no doubt she has donated as well.

Yes, same here. I texted ICE to 70550 but no confirmation.

I've just trolled back through my FB newsfeed and not one person mentions the words charity or donation.
I've received my nomination for this. I shall be doing it tomorrow. Question: is there a generally accepted number of nominations you're allowed to make? I have quite a few people I'd like to nominate but don't want to exceed any accepted "allowance" if there is such a thing.
PS. Sorry if this has already been discussed on the thread, I haven't read it all.

I do it online so that I can see there and then its done. Altho when its a new (to me) charity I have to put in all those card details and my eyes are not the best anymore.
just because no one has mentioned donating does not mean to say they have not donated
Well why bother posting? Like I said before, its attention seeking
If you're gonna go to the trouble of post a video of you getting wet, then mention the charity. Maybe not the amount but at least mention the charity. Otherwise why bother????

Very strange isnt it, those of us who dont think its daft of attention seeking see and hear our FB friends talking about donations and those who dont like it all haven't seen any
I still think its the friends we keep, to what we see on our newsfeed.
It's not just a matter of "why not just donate?" The sensation of the water is to give an idea of what MND sufferers go through.
(Which is also why I object to Macmillan donations for it).
Macmillain hijacking the challenge and then acting like they were totally justified to do so and anyone offended was wrong was utterly shameful. I really can't believe they did that.

They'll all be wanting to claim that it was originally started for them, because this means that people who don't know what the ice bucket challenge is for, they'll think that it's for the charity whose website they're on. Like I've said already in this thread or another thread about it, it shows that even charities lie.....if they have claimed this.

I dont think one video on my FB page actually quoted the charity!
I only found out which charity it relates to today! Says a lot

Everyone I know and all my daughters friends a knew it was for MND . Maybe Ireland being so small word spreads much quicker here . Everyone is talking about MND now

I know someone who nominated mass groups of people and just named them as a collective entity.
My nomination also wasn't by name, one of my friends nominated the "pink ladies runners" so that covered about 15 or so girls.
I did mine Saturday. I dont normally go in for Facebook or even more crazes, fads and fashions. But I was delighted to do this one and think its a brilliant idea. I donated to MND as did my wife, with the link to the cold sensation. The mother in law did hers and opted to donate to a tiny charity I had never heard of.
As for being a sheep, I had gone 40 years without ever wearing a pair of jeans or drinking tea because everyone else does. But if the kids want to throw buckets of water over Dad and did and loved it, mine and my wifes nominees all did it (bar one brother who refused and fair enough) the other 7 all donated to different charities where is there any harm or slightest fault in that?
As for the idiots claiming their FB news feed is full of people throwing buckets of water over them. I have spent, cumulatively probably two hours on FB so far in 2014 and more than double that, this weekend. There have been some hilarious clips and also some of people clearly suffering, in a good way, with it and shedloads raised.
Give it two days and we'll all be back to people checking in at Asda, photos of peoples dinner, updates throughout the morning on the delivery of a mattress, invites to build imaginary villages and multiple status updates, with "aaaawww babe" and "wots up huni" and plenty of people will be happy again.

See what I mean about the unbrilded hostility towards anyone not 100% on board with the ice bucket challenge? Why do people like you think it's okay to have a go at people like this?

Conveniently chopping off the part where I said my own brother refused to do it and fair enough to him. I refused to do the Neknomination and would do many others.
Theres no hostility whatsoever to those not doing it, just curiosity how people prefer FB the rest of the week to this.

Not really. As long as they donate. But I very much doubt that the posters of the videos have actually donated.

How do you know? Why assume the worst of people? As I said, the proof is in the pudding- just look at the figures.

Are they I had better go tell my mates they are doing it all wrong then I have seen many other things other than a bucket of water over their heads.
Oh well my friends are imaginative as well as generous to a fault. I have to think up something for my own challenge tomorrow.

I almost feel ashamed tbh

According to the mnd association's twitter there's a delay in the conformation texts so I should think they have got the money or will do soon.
