are channel 5 testing the water for aquiring and showing series 3 of once upon a time
-series 2 is being repeated next week at 3.10 am each morning from tuesday
I doubt it- just using it to fill in graveyard slots that people will use for recording possibly.
Well the problem with Channel 5 acquiring season 3 of Once Upon A Time is that would there now be an audience for it as the majority of fans of the show will have already obtained it from elsewhere or are planning to buy the DVD when its released on the 20th October!
The takeover is nearing completion and is set to be approved by government.
Viacom poised to seal C5 deal
Viacom’s £450m acquisition of Channel 5 is set to close next month and the two companies have opened content-sharing talks.
It is understood the deal will be finalised by 20 September, giving the US media giant – which operates MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon – full control of the public service broadcaster.
The UK government will usher the takeover through after Viacom agreed to honour C5’s commitment to commission 600 hours of original British children’s programming annually, which was agreed as part of the public service broadcaster’s licence renewal last year.

600 hours of children's programming will be like a breeze in the park for Viacom, and will give them a lot more content to boost into Nickelodeon as repeats

Nickelodeon was originally going to partner with itv for a FTA childrens channel, but Disney (who co-owned GMTV with itv at the time), blocked the deal, after the merger might the time for Viacom to launch a FTA Milkshake channel, to challenge Citv and cbeebies/CBBC.

That would be interesting, when was this?
However Nickelodeon is a much stronger brand name than Milkshake
Whilst Nickleodeon is the better known brand and Viacom could just as easily rename Milkshake as Nick on Five, or something similar, if they went for a separate channel, Using the Milkshake name would keep it a slight distance from the pay channel, like Pick and Sky or VIVA and MTV.
Flicking around the channels last night I was rather surprised to see a 15 year old repeat documentary about "the worlds worst storms". Is this the best they can do at peak time at the weekend?

Casually flicking through, yet you managed to catch what year the programme was made?
X Factor might be weakening but it's a big show. That slot is never going to be a key slot for C5, peak or not. Because it's too big a beast for them to take on. For all they will try to provide an alternative, they will also protect their main shows capable of rating well.
That said, resorting to a 15 year old rerun is embarrassing. What they would normally do on a Sunday at this time of year is air a family movie there. But with the cricket highlights at 7PM they found themselves with an hour to fill before Celebrity Big Brother, so clearly needed a filler type show to plug the gap.
I'm glad the viacom deal seems to be going through. Hoping to see a rebrand soon after, I have said it time and time again but I think they should try and do something like the 2008-2011 era, I think rebranding as Five would be a good start.
I have sympathy for C5, the broadcaster has no idea what it stands for, it trys to be C4 with all these trash TV benefit programmes and then goes in a different route with other shows. I can't remember the last time I actually watched something on C4 - I think it's pure rubbish - that said, I only watch C5 for a selection of its programmes.
Channel 5, now with Viacom, should get BB and CBB rights retained, you can say what you like about the show but I think it has become somewhat of a flagship for C5 and they could strip the CBB back to just one in January, get bigger names, bring back live feed, and stop putting so much bloody emphasis on the "coming up..." The should invest more in proper documentaries that if they took their news seriously could incorporate some of the presenters. US imports should remain but contend with the likes of ITV to ensure theirs are really current. Stop sentencing them to graveyard slots too and give them proper promotions whilst keeping them up to date with the US.
My ideal slot for Channel 5 would be something along the lines of:
0600-0900 - Maybe some sort of breakfast show to go against GMB and Breakfast or some kids shows*
0900-1100 - The Wright Stuff
1100-1200 - Maybe like a cookery show like Gino and Mel?
1200-1230- Lunchtime News
1230-1300 - Neighbours
1300-1330 - Home and Away
1330-1500 - Afternoon film
1500-1600 - Light documentary
1600-1700 - Gameshow
1700-1730 - 5 News
1730-1800 - The return or beginning of Channel 5 soap - Family Affairs?
1800-1830 - Neighbours
1830-1900 - Home and Away
1900-2000 - Cowboy builders/Hotel Inspector
2000-2100 - Documentary or another drama depending on documentary subject
2100-2200 - (C)BB when on or replaced by "big" drama such as Dallas/Under The Dome.
2200-2300 - (C)BB if put back by a drama, Bit On the Side inserted here or 2300-0000 where necessary. Late night chat show - could hopefully secure a big presenter, if they do want to take comedy approach could have a comedian like the BBC have done with Michael McIntyre.
2300-0000 - Night time documentary
0000-... - Return of live feed when big brother is on. Otherwise could run from this slot repeats of the wright stuff or the likes - ITV does this with Jeremy Kyle.
*I like the idea that milkshake! could go on and be its own channel to compete with CBBC and Cbeebies, Viacom could definitely invest money into shows or could share some from nickelodeon.
As far as 5* and 5USA are concerned unless they are serious about putting shows on them as opposed to repeats and rubbish shows they could either ditch them or combine the two into a 5STARENTERTAINMENT (quick name) which could have its own shows but doesn't limit itself to USA content or whatever.

Channel 5 would crash and burn with that lineup. Where is Milkshske? That's vital for the brand and makes them a lot of money .
Channel 5 could really do with launching a Milkshake channel instead of Channel 5+24, The Milkshake should show new kids shows around the daytime with presenters.

But that's a few hours in the evening, so the wrong time of day for Milkshake.

As opposed to what it's doing now? I'm not really too sure and it was designed on the spot but IMO it's better than the current one and that is saying something if it was just designed then.
Did you read it? I said either 0600-0900 could be that or a breakfast show. Then, I went on to say how they could have a milkshake! channel. The brand could probably do it, and actually maybe in replacement of the horrid +24, with Viacom's backing. Nickelodeon is a cartoon channel that runs long and then I'm sure features teleshopping in the small hours - this could be were the make up that time should it be so desperately needed.
I cannot see the point of the acquisition .All the ideas are available on other channels. There is no point in duplicating what Viacom do on other channels they own.
Viacom hopefully will have a higher moral compass than the previous owner.
I hope they do not use the us model of shows 19 mins long and advertisements 11 mins long every 30mins.
Looking forward to see schedule but I hope they don't fill it with reality shows.

Your lineup is almost exactly the same and your suggesting a morning show if it hasn't worked for ITV and C4 it's not going to work for C5.

Frow is a useless controller.
Channel 5 has sunk even lower because of him.
Yes, it was 8.55 and the show was just ending.

Don't forget the hour of hours of Teleshopping which could be removed when they have a new plan.

However a Milkshake channel using the 5+24 bandwidth until 7pm is quite a good suggestion.
Last year, there was talk of Viacom launching a Nick channel on Freeview: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/broadcasters/viacom-eyes-second-freeview-slot-for-nick/5052230.article

You are declaring GMB a failure. I don't recall ITV saying that their breakfast days are over?
The last one I can think of was John Suchet's Going For Gold, but surely they can't have totally ignored the genre for that long?
