I can understand the frustration. Falcao and Di Maria are dream signings, I'm jealous. :)
But for further outlay of £40/45m you might have picked up both Benetia and Khedira which would have given you a much more balanced squad. Easier said than done of course, you can't always sign the players you want.
Daley Blind could be a short term answer in defensive midfield before you upgrade ? But I can't really see Herrera as a box to box ball winner as someone suggested. Whatever way you cut it, you will look a bit lightweight in midfield up against the likes of Man City.

Many thanks for trying to get what I was trying to say, but might not have put it as eloquently as I might have done.

Well let's see transfer Windows have a funny habit of throwing up transfers that were deemed off limits!

But even if he (or someone else of his ilk) doesn't come in, and the same goes for signing a centre-back, it would still be a bit of mediocre at best day, as we are crying out for cover in those areas.
Not helping to solve or fix those areas, would be for me at the very least, a bit of a let-down.

Yes signing Falcao and Blind would be great, (and if Falcao is offered to you, you can't really turn down that chance) but they don't help to solve the areas that we still need to fix, and might hurt us during the course of the season.
They are dream signings, of the sort that I thought that we might not be in to, and of course in full flow, they will be fantastic to watch and enjoy, but just like at Real Madrid, what happens when teams attack us?
Do we currently posses the necessary players to confidently believe that we can stop them from scoring past us more weeks than not?

If we are going down the "we will score more than you!" road, that I think can only work so often, and against the better teams, who have confident, and very well drilled and better defenders, that tactic, might not work.
Hence, why I would like to see an experienced defender come in.
I just want us to be as good as possible.

Still there are six hours left, so who knows what could happen!

What are you talking about, how can today be a mediocre day we have signed Falcao on a year loan loan deal and you are still not happy.

You are just talking nonsense at the moment, once Rojo's work permit is sorted will that satisfy you, or will you still be unhappy.

And for the record I too am going to a United match in the next few weeks United v Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, see you there if you deem to travel down to London.

There are a lot of cheap places to stay down here you don't have to be staying at The Ritz you know.

Could be a quality signing for a year, came out of no where really.

Don't tell Rooney, but Ogden (United mouthpiece) states Falcao getting 346,000 a week, mental.

Seems like City got priced out (FFP worked unfortunately)

Jeez, Bats wasn't joking! I'm flabbergasted, and not in a good way.

A midfield three consisting of Herrera, Blind and Di Maria should fair pretty well against the top teams IMO. Just need to get them to gel on the pitch. Blind isn't the strongest lad, but hopefully he will make up for it with his positioning and movement in front of the backline and allow Herrera/Di Maria to thrive going forward.

That wage is so high because he's not paying any tax at Monaco.

They won't play together. Arsenal only ever play with one striker.

He was reportedly on £8.5m after tax at Monaco.

I think that's about £170k a week. If the numbers being quoted are correct he may have managed to increase his 'take home' pay by about £20k week.

Not sure how accurate that figure is having read he was earning between £270k and £450k per week at Monaco. Even if he is earning that for this season, I can't see them giving him that if we signed him permanently.

    Cheers.

Well, whatever he's being paid, we've got a year to decide if he's worth it or not.

Definitely worth it for you guys.

City couldn't increase there wage bill this year so u assume that went a long way in ruling them out.

In that case I don't see the point because neither are likely to score often............but I'm not complaining.

Anybody heard whether the Welbeck deal would be permanent or a loan?
