I have changed my Tivo settings to 720p from 1080i as the picture quality is better but the automatic setting puts it back on 1080i.
What do you have yours set on?

1080i and 1080p
because Netflix outputs 1080p on it's SuperHD content as they call it. And the tivo needs to be on 1080i + 1080p modes to be able to go in (it switches on its own)
Admittedly the SD channels look poor on my TV, I enable the noise reductions and they do help a little. However the HD channels are superb. In Particular Sky Movies, Sky Sports, and BT Sports/ESPN.
the then original BBC HD channel was uncompressed on virgin till BBC ONE HD arrived. then BBC HD went to BBC TWO HD and ended up the same way as BBC ONE HD.
The original BBC HD was superb and the best HD channel on there, plus there used to be some tests and on the last day had a really good Lip Sync test as well.
Although puzzling, Satellite has ITV HD with a dolby digital track (even tho its 2.0 most of the time), VM does not.
Freeview HD can use 1080p and there are quite a few BBC programmes at least using it.
1080x1920 pixels at 25 frames per second uses exactly the same bandwidth whether it is transmitted as i or p.
1080i as 540 active vertical lines vs 1080p which is 1080 it is virtually double the bandwidth unless you mean 1080i/50 vs 1080p/25. On a side note I am on about proper 1080p/50 but yes you are correct Freeview HD does have some dynamic muxing etc to provide a 1080p feed.
I meant exactly what I posted. At the same resolution horizontal and vertical and the same number of frames per second the bandwidth requirements are exactly the same whether it is transmitted as a single progressive frame or two interlaced fields.
Trust me, it definitely does. ;-)
sometimes you don't notice it. just use your TV info button to actually tell.
I would concur..
1080i is 50 interlaced fields per frame = 25 fps
1080p is 25 progressive frames per second = 25fps (surprisingly )
However, I would also add that the same compression algorithm applied to interlaced and progressive content could possibly have an effect on the average bit rate, but in no way on Earth does 1080p require double the band with of 1080i.
goto video settings
run the test
then untick all except 1080i, you will see 1080p below it, put a tick in there.
the TiVo main menus and HD channels output at 1080i, SD are upscaled to 1080i, netflix however DOES output TRUE 1080p. But you must have that 1080p setting on.
if you have tivo hooked to your TV and not an amp, you will notice the resolution change. Press your info button to see it in 1080p.
