I can see what they were aiming for with that audition - to show how cut throat the industry is and how you really have to have 'it' to succeed.
However, it's just really not the direction the show should be taking. It already gets enough flack for being humiliating contestants and that was just awful to watch especially after the stories she came out with herself that she was asked to return only to be built up to be brought down. Sure Amy probably wouldn't have won the show but every year we have people getting through on not much more than their image and not to mention the OTT joke acts - it was unnecessarily harsh for the sake of being harsh to send her home, especially with the limp reason of her being 'just nice'
The show has enough of a reputation for being nasty and negative compared to other talent shows, yes it'll get people talking but not for the right reasons. The whole show tonight left a bad taste in the mouth

I guess after 11 series the number of new stories the producers can come up with was a bit on the low side.
It wasn't terrible. It just wasn't good enough.
There is a grey area between good and terrible and she was in the grey area.
Implausible display.
In all honesty Chezza couldn't give two shits about her.
Stop being gullible, this is not about the singers, it's about Cheryl's redemption and reinstatement.
Yep. Amy was ok but Louis was right. Pretty girl, nice voice, bland as the day is long. Nothing that hasn't been seen and heard in every pub and karaoke night in the country.
It was more about sob stories, prime time am dram and Princess Cheryl shedding a single tear of solid gold
Totally agree, and even when Cheryl was like 'ya knew i lov ya pet etc' it was like she was saying it with this blank, vacant stare, she couldn't even make it sound genuine! It was just so manipulated to make Cheryl look good! But she is such a bad actress a blind man could see through that act!
This was XF manipulation at its worst using Amy to boost the ratings with a "contraversial" audtion where she was left looking like an idiot, but hey we all still watch it.
This was the issue I had with it. It's not as if Amy getting sent home was some great tragedy. It was just so so painful to watch someone who we all knew was asked back to return, someone's who's clearly had their hopes raised up, get dashed down with a feeble excuse that she was 'too nice'. It was horrible. And I can't for the life of me understand the intention of putting her on last - in an episode with hardly any yes's in it - close-up shots of her sobbing up on the stage with sad music playing in the background. That's not entertaining in the slightest. It's not even so bad it's good. All the show is doing is living up to it's nasty and negative reputation and I have no idea why they would want to do that.
But of course yes Cheryl was a darling saint with those tear-stained eyes
Or else I've just watched too much of this crap now
There have been so many stories of contestants being left without water, being made to wait from early morning to past midnight without being told when they'll be on, or being rushed on without the chance to warm their vocals. At the same time others receive backing tracks, extra reverb added to their performance and OTT comments.
Amy has already stated that she felt she was set up by the show.
But the whole section with Amy was set up and utterly pointless. Cheryl didn't seem at all natural as the one asking the judges for their votes and the poor girl definitely shouldn't have gone through as she was pretty weak. But to set her up in the first place was ridiculous, it's not like she was a memorable character who was shafted in a previous year to make way for a controversial choice. Well not as far as I remember.
Now if they'd brought back Gamu ...
I don't think she comes out looking stupid or humiliated as some have suggested though. There's no shame in trying and failing. I'd imagine most people felt quite sympathetic towards her.
Cheryl liked Amy, or at least felt obliged to make allowances having sent her home last time.
I was in the kitchen when Amy came on but I did record the X Factor. I caught a glimpse of Amy's preformance and was pleased with what she was making of the song. I did then watch it back after tea. Anyway, when Simon said he thought Cheryl was right not to put her through to the finals in 2008, I hoped this would be an Alexandra Burke moment in that he would add that she is so much better now.
I think it was hearing the audience urge Simon to put her through that persuaded him against. After all, Simon does prefer a controversial headline to friendly talent.
To be fair, she messed up the song choice and didn't deserve to get through. The Courtesans on the other hand really nailed it...
