The underperformance of The One Show should be a major concern to BBC1. It was only 2- 3 years ago that this programme was regularly bobbing around 5m. These days it's well down, despite the Emmerdale opposition being much weaker.

    Latest BARB week (1-7 September)
    30 THE ONE SHOW (TUE 1858) 3.45
    All other episodes under 3.46m.

Same week in 2013 (2-8 September)
29 THE ONE SHOW (MON 1858) 4.03 [Strictly reveal]
    All other episodes under 4.02m.

Same week in 2012 (3-9 September)
    28 THE ONE SHOW (THU 1858) 3.60
    All other episodes under 3.58m.

Same week in 2011 (5-11 September)
12 THE ONE SHOW (TUE 1858) 5.48 [Strictly reveal]
    24 THE ONE SHOW (MON 1858) 4.31
    27 THE ONE SHOW (WED 1858) 4.23
    29 THE ONE SHOW (THU 1859) 4.13
    Friday's episode below 4.05m.

It certainly wasn't regularly bobbing around 5m this time three years ago. That 5.48m in 2011 was for the Strictly reveal show; it didn't go above 4.6m again until mid-October that year, and didn't breach 5m until late November. It was a similar story in 2012.

It's definitely declined; but then so has pretty much everything else.

I find it interesting that both STV and UTV have local opt outs for Gino's Italian Escape, UTV air Lesser Spotted Ulster which I don't how it rates compare to Gino but can't be imagine it's that high.

ITV Wales also opts-out for Helimeds

Going back a couple of days to the news about Dennis Waterman's departure from New Tricks, it's interesting that even this BBC news report mentions the 'depleted' viewing figures:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-29274247

Great share for Pointless Celebrities. Hopefully that neutered Celebrity Chase and damaged it to its lowest rating of the series so far. All the BBC need to do in that Saturday 6pm slot is air Pointless Celebrities all year round, and they would end up with very strong early evening audiences.

I would have to ask the question - WHY?

And a supplementary - what does he know about dancing?

@TVRatingsUK: #TheXFactor drew 8.57m/40.1% last night, 260k down on last year's equivalent episode and 300k down on last week.

    Let the bitching commence!

Consolidated figures now in for Sept 7 show X Factor 9.23m v Strictly 9.16m - result reversed. ITV can claim victory by short head.

XFactor's Saturday ratings trajectory so far this series:

    Week 1 - 9.49m 43.0pct
    Week 2 - 8.91m 41.7pct
    Week 3- 8.87m 40.9pct
    Week 4 - 8.57m 40.1pct

It has fallen in terms of rating and share every single week so far! Just like all the poor series of the show, the first episode has thus far been the highest rating one. Looks like the buzz this series has been bad. This is awful news for Itv considering they brought back Cowell and Cole to stabilise or grow the ratings. But in fact, the ratings have continued to fall! And not only that but the tough competition from Strictly is yet to come! Imagine it'll be down in the 7s exl +1 for many episodes from now on.

This fool Mark Jefferies is including +1 for XFactor which is completely unfair.

I wouldn't really be bragging about that I mean that was jaunt Strictlys launch show. Plus isn't he using plus one as well?
