Does anyone show up to these things? I am being pressured into going and I really don't want to. I tried to be civil and say I couldn't afford it but it is free. I said that I had family over and everyone has family over but are making the effort.
It is bad enough l, I see them for 5 days every week of every month of every year and I don't want to see them outside of the office. I have no desire to.

They seem to keen, and trying to get this big happy family this g going at work. I sit there rolling my eyes. I might be a buzzkill but even I do not have the heart to say, well I don't want to go because I see you every day and really don't want to you see outside work. It is impolite.
To be brutally honest, no one will be that worried if you're there or not. We've booked ours today and only about 60% of the staff have said yes and that's a good result really.
It could be embarrassing if you get off with one in a drunken state, and then have to see her after Christmas.:o
It's also true is it not? Just say you don't feel like it and then just stop answering the question.

Lol well spotted. Lil_M has some explaining to do.
Anyway I would hate to work somewhere where I didn't feel like I wanted to socialise at all with my colleagues
I doubt many work dos have anything "Christian" about it. And last party I went to there were those of all faiths.
The best thing to do is make your choice and park it. If you don't want to go say, you can't make it and that's it. Or you can go and don't worry about it till the day. I'm temping in my role and don't talk to my colleagues much mainly because of the nature of my role. I will go, try my best and if I feel left out/not enjoying myself, leave after the food ends. Quite often I find I enjoy these things despite thinking I won't!
You actually sit there rolling your eyes?. Wow I wouldn't want to be sat near you!. If you can't even bring yourself to make a little bit of an effort, don't bother going. Sounds like it will be much better without you.
I am Muslim and yes I can celebrate Christmas. Many Islamic countries for example, Pakistan has a large Christian population. During Christmas time, there are massive Christmas trees in huge shopping malls. In fact it is an excuse to shop.
It really is. The number of people that kiss the manager arse is ridiculous and the whole constant it is "all about the fun". So much fun and it makes me grumpy.
Plus, they are making me work during Christmas. I had a holiday planned and to go to Berlin or Amsterdam. Haven't decided.
If it looks like you're going to wind up in bed with one of them, you'd better get her to sign a waiver, witnessed by at least two credible persons, or you may end up having a thread on your actions, a la Ched Evans.
(This is for ste likes boobs)
In my last team (how I miss them), we all got on and had a laugh. I need crazy big personalities on my team. I need people who go from 0-60 over someone moving a pen to someone getting really excited over Friday and randomly dancing.
I moved teams, and this new team is too normal and sane. And the only crazy thing they do is talk about how we are all this big family at work.
My point stands. Nobody will pressurise you to take part. You get to choose.
