ITV have had very few successful periods in the year, it would be concerning if "I'm a Celebrity" had taken the same kinda fall as "The X Factor" "Downton Abbey" its never good for any channel to get a stranglehold on the audience in an ideal world. The BBC has dominated ITV a lot more than ever during 2014 and that can't be the best for creativity.

Has it Yorkie? I'm not aware of its figures in previous years sorry, it looks pretty dominant to me at around 8 to 9 million weeknights. I like the BBC to be ahead but not when ITV don't even try! Anyway when's the next series of "Doctor Who" I'm having withdrawls from series 8 now.

I'm glad someone of the gravitas of Steve brought this up, and I agree.
All it was was a bit of news that ITV studios factual arm is making a few factual shows that amounted to about 4 hours of content on the main channel, but many here were treating it like it was the sole content in ITV's major winter programme launch. All a bit over the top, and exactly the sort of thing Samuel used to specialise in.
Well I dont agree. Its funny how its only ever over the top when ITV are criticised. ITV had a press release announcing a number of commissions which were all poor/lazy and people commented on it - thats all that happened.
If the situation had been reversed with a similar BBC release you would probably have done the same.
Of course its still dominant but it is down around 1m generally so far yoy.

Yet some of these titles are quite old, they probably should be challenged in theory but nothing can get as big as these shows lately apart from "The Great British Bake Off" I would have been interested in its battle with "I'm a Celebrity" on Wednesday.
They should be challenged but it is very rare. It usually happens when their popularity dips (X Factor), or a more attractive proposition comes along (Call The Midwife opposite Dancing On Ice). But that second one is rarer than the first.
IAC has been doing just fine so far. I don't think anyone expected the highs of last year for a series that rated abnormally high and became it's best rated series ever! So far it's averaging 9.0m (inc +1: 9.3m).
At the same stage in:
2013: 10.2m (inc +1: 10.6m)
2012: 9.1m (inc +1: 9.6m)
2011: 9.3m (inc +1: 9.7m)
2010: 9.5m (+1 did not exist - those were the days )
So quite a bit down on 2013 but on par between 2010-2012 - and with timeshift continuing to get higher and higher it could narrow the gap further.
Arguably the biggest of the lot bar Downton Abbey. Broadchurch is a programme that makes rival broadcasters jealous. ITV announced a lot during the year. It's easy to forget how much.

Black Work is fiction so Jeff Pope won't have written it!
Mmmm disappointing. Blimey its by the writer of "Our Zoo" Matt Charman, that doesn't sound so good after all!!

I am interested in a lot of those although I think there are a couple of mistakes plus still too many 3/4 parters. Just the inclusion of Broadchurch and Doc Martin should give them a boost for 2015 though.

Its the drama they need to keep rebuilding for that 9pm slot, that's how BBC one have got ahead from ITV by carving out returnable titles.
Not sure penguins will be a ratings winner to be honest! Perhaps a police search for a Baked Alaska could work better for the audience figures.

Thats what I meant by too many 3/4 parters they definately need returnable hits especially as Lewis/Scott and Bailey may not be around too long and can they get another series out of Broadchurch/ Doc Martin?

They were filming The Trials of Jimmy Rose (also starring Amanda Redman btw) in the Manchester area this week. Police had to warn locals that the gun shots, explosions and police surrounding the area that they might hear were for TV and not a terrorist attack!

Ray Winstone in a show with gunshots/explosions - never !!

Reminds me of when they were first filming The Bill. The public thought they were real police and asked for directions!
And the animal cruelty. Honestly if animals were being exploited on TV to the extent of cruelty, there would be uproar from PETA and other animal organizations, ITV would not be allowed to show it, particularly in Britain.
ITV were fined for animal cruelty by an ex-jailbird contestant, D'Acampo:

Good on them I say. If you don't want escapism from TV occasionally, you're doing it all wrong.
Poor old Zoe back to the subs bench. ;-)
IAC has taken the same fall hasnt it?
Has it Yorkie? I'm not aware of its figures in previous years sorry, it looks pretty dominant to me at around 8 to 9 million weeknights. I like the BBC to be ahead but not when ITV don't even try! Anyway when's the next series of "Doctor Who" I'm having withdrawls from series 8 now.

Well I dont agree. Its funny how its only ever over the top when ITV are criticised. ITV had a press release announcing a number of commissions which were all poor/lazy and people commented on it - thats all that happened.
If the situation had been reversed with a similar BBC release you would probably have done the same.
Of course its still dominant but it is down around 1m generally so far yoy.

Somebody compiled a list of ITV drama coming up in 2015.
Drama
Home Fires (new WWII drama), The Frankenstein Chronicles (starring Sean Bean), Safe House (starring Christopher Ecclestone), Black Work (Sheridan Smith), Code of a Killer (John Simm), Trials of Jimmy Rose (Ray Winstone), Arthur and George (Martin Clunes), The Forgotten, Doc Martin, Scott and Bailey, Lewis, Endeavour, DCI Banks, Vera, Foyle's War, Mr Selfridge, Midsomer Murders, Downton Abbey.
Broadchurch as well. Not a bad list there.
They should be challenged but it is very rare. It usually happens when their popularity dips (X Factor), or a more attractive proposition comes along (Call The Midwife opposite Dancing On Ice). But that second one is rarer than the first.
I wonder if there will be any penguins in it !!
