No emails

I am not receiving my emails and keep getting a pop up that say POP3 is not responding. I've tried searching for info but the suggestions haven't worked.
Any ideas please?

I am using Word 7

Is your internet connection working; can you browse the 'net?

I guess you mean you have Windows 7. How are you reading your email? What program do you run?

What do you click to get your emails?

A blue 'e' icon which is Internet Explorer?
A white envelope is on which is Windows Live Mail?
A yellow icon which is Microsoft Office Outlook?

At http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/email-security is this message at the moment:
Issues accessing your @talktalk.net email account - Update 29th 13:55

Our engineers have identified that some customers are having issues accessing their @talktalk.net email account. This isn’t affecting the actual emails, which are still being delivered correctly, but is causing customers problems accessing them...

If anyone was once with NTL but still using an @ntlworld.com one, they closed down thousands and thousands the other week.

That was slightly surprising as I thought Google managed them.
Obviously if you are not paying NTL, they are as good as now dead and buried.
The same could also apply for other broadband providers.

To test that the email is dead as a dodo, simply use your new/current email to send to the old email.
A "Delivery to the following recipient failed PERMANENTLY" type message failure should boomerang back.

    Try going here

    http://www.talktalk.co.uk/mail/?check_cookie=1

and logging in there. If your mail is working OK that should let you in and at least read your mail

Something odd going on. Not sure if it's just me but if I click the link above it goes to somewhere completely different. But copy the link and paste into the address bar of the browser and it works? DS or me playing silly games???

That link works fine, leads to the same page as the link I left.

It looks like Talk Talk are experiencing problems with their email services.

    http://m.help.talktalk.co.uk/issues-accessing-your-talktalknet-email-account-update-29th-1355

If you haven't made any changes to the configuration then it's likely that you may be affected.

Email services are often spread accross multiple servers so this may be affecting some but not all customers.

Adblock playing silly b's. I normally use Firefox but tried it in IE and it works fine. Only difference is Adblock+. Turn Adblock+ off and it works. Turn it on and it goes to some site called zenaps.com.

Thats odd, it works for me with ABP on or off in Firefox and with hosts file enabled or not.

    Tried this link as suggested
    http://www.talktalk.co.uk/mail/?check_cookie=1

.. but after logging in realised I had forgotten my password and can't receive an email to correct situation.
Think I'll have to wait until the morning and I'll give them a ring.

Even more odd. Right click on the link, select open in new tab and I get TalkTalk as expected. Go figure!

If you can log into your account you can change the password for the email associated with it.

Have a look at this page

    http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/email-settings-imap-pop3

Click the + on the right of whatever e-mail address you use to see the settings you need to enter into a mail client program, like Live Mail. Compare them to the settings you have entered into Live Mail to make sure they are correct.

I can half remember something like that happening to me in the past, I don't think it was DS or Talktalk related. Certain links would not open except in a new tab, I don't remember being redirected though ... it was some years ago so I can't remember the details.

shirley just made it onto the Register

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/11/29/talktalk_email_outage/

'It would appear that some customer having seen this issue are trying to change their email password to help remedy the issue. Please note that you do not need to change your password if affected by this issue as it will not resolve the issue accessing your emails.'

That is what will happen when the ISP stays quiet on the matter.

For goodness sakes! Talk Talk are experiencing problems and the OP has already indicated that they are using Windows Live mail therefore there is absolutely no need to change any of the settings, nor compare them.

OP: be patient. I'm sure that this problem will be resolved soon and in the meantime sit back, relex and have a nice glass of red wine.

If you are getting into the e-mail account using the same method as you usually do then presumably you do whatever you always do to read the messages?

No it's not the same method...I am able to get into my TT account where all the bills etc. info is where I had been informed I could read my messages from there.... not via clicking on the envelope icon on my tool bar.
