EE: Floor Board Scene / There's a Killer Amongst Them
Apologies if this has already been discussed prior to my topic.
During tonight's episode, we saw Jane bury Lucy's belongings under a lose floorboard. Now, take yourself back to the 'There's a Killer Amongst Them' trailer. Aside from the opening shot, who are we first met by? Denise. She's crouched on a wooden floor, clutching a hammer, as a piece of lose floor board sits beside her. Correct me if I'm wrong, but she's not just on any old floor; she's in the Beale's house.
What do we think the significance is here?
I think the trailer is fantastically cryptic, and considering how the show itself is only revealing clues of little substance, I'm almost certain the trailer is where us 'viewer detectives' should be looking. Upon the clips initial release, I remember seeing a lot of DS members almost disregard the trailer as a potential 'giveaway' so to speak. Now that the story itself has had time to develop on screen, I think the trailer has suddenly become of both a far higher relevance, and importance also.
We see Denise suspiciously lurking in the Beale house. Here, is the trailer simply making reference to how it was Denise who initially found the belongings, or is it making a statement regarding the killer and their potential whereabouts? It's interesting to note that in the same episode where the floor board became relevant in the actual show, Jane made a sudden u-turn in deciding to move back in with Ian.
I just feel like the trailer is perhaps saying something, and we're all missing exactly what it is that it's telling us. I mean, if we take it as it comes, put simply, Denise uncovers something hidden within the Beale house. If we think more metaphorically, could this be making a reference to how someone in the Beale house has a secret, and how Denise is going to uncover the truth? Going further; could this be making an even bolder statement that the killer, or possibly killers, live within the Beale house? Again, I refer back to the fact that tonight, the episode where the whole floor board theory came into play, Jane decided to move back in. Could she know more than she's letting on? I've thought that she's had some involvement in it all from the very start.
Anyway, what do we think about this? I haven't exactly articulated my thinking particularly well, but essentially, I feel that the floorboard thing, however insignificant it may seem to those who are less analytical, is in fact of a particularly high significance. I'd be interested to hear some other takes on this.

Good trailer.
I wonder whose coffee Ian is going to poison at the cafe?
Oooh don't get me started on the Ian and Jane scenes in the trailer. I could go on forever For now though, one word will suffice: drugs.
Trailer: Denise at the floorboard - Show: Jane at the floorboard
Trailer: Lauren cleaning a bloody shirt - Show: Max cleaning up blood in the car lot
Trailer: Peter digging in the allotment - Show: Denise digging in the allotmetn
Trailer: Ian pouring 'sugar' into a cup - Show: Peter supplying Lucy with cocaine
Also in the trailer we've had:
Max taking out some rubbish
Jane clearing up some broken glass
Have these appeared in the show in some form?
Also, at the very beginning of the trailer... I've noticed there appears to be a blonde woman in the Square with another figure. Anyone else been able to figure out what's going on there?
Floorboard
Also
Digging
Drugs
which are all related to the trailer I think
There is a blonde and a brunette. The blonde is Lola and I think the other is Tina. She is handing something to Lola.
The spider crawling across the floor could be another metaphor. Denise is going to crush the bug within the Beale house.
Could Peter also be digging his own grave? Something big will surely happen at Christmas...
EDIT: That scene featuring Denise is brilliantly creepy.
BIB: I think Ian's responsible for Lucy's death? Why? Because when she went to the flat she stumbled upon Ian and Rainie.
As she stormed out of the block of flats a row ensued with Lucy threatening to reveal to Denise about Ian's misdemeanours.
In temper Ian caused Lucy's injuries that led to her death.... So, yes, I agree with the statement Lucy's killer is indeed a member of the Beale household.
Given that Tina was growing cannabis earlier on in the year could she have been supplying Lola?
Presumably Jane isn't used to hiding evidence in a potential murder trial, but it just seemed so silly to me that she'd keep it there.
Oh for sure, the spider is definitely of a huge significance. I remember DTC explaining how the whole inspiration behind this storyline came from his enjoyment of Broadchurch. The Broachurch EP, creator and writer all in one explained how he relied heavily on the use of metaphorical clues, as opposed to big bold giveaways. One metaphor he spoke of was the constant, yet very random shot of a slug crawling up the Miller's living room wall. He explained how he placed the slug as a way of cryptically showing how something in the Miller house wasn't quite right, and how something, or someone, was in the house who shouldn't be. Obviously, we know it was Ellie Miller's husband responsible for the murder of Danny, which shows the real relevance behind the slug.
I'm almost certain DTC is playing the same game here. He's put the spider in the Beale house as a way of saying the killer, or the person perhaps inadvertently responsible for Lucy's death, is living within the walls of that house. Again, this makes it even more so interesting how this all comes to light in the episode where Jane moves back in. I'm sure she's involved somewhere, just sure of it.
But Lucy set off to the flats after leaving her argument with Ian.
He somehow got ahead of her and shagged Rainie at the Walford Common flats?
I initially thought the scene means nothing other than to show the whole of Albert Square in time with the "land of gods and monsters" lyric. However, if it is Lola and she's standing in the middle of Albert Square, maybe it's as simple as that. She's at the centre of everything.
However, I feel we would have had a close-up of Lola like the other characters did, if the scene at the beginning is as relevant.
Didn't Max throw a computer in the trash at some point?
I just thought Jane scene was symbolises her coming back to try and clean up the mess Lucy's death has left.
Jane's scene makes reference to drugs, as does Ian's. Jane is hoovering 'glass', whilst Ian is pouring 'sugar'. See the link? The glass looks like crystal drugs, whilst the sugar looks like cocaine. Jane's scene also perhaps symbolises how she's hiding evidence. Why is there glass/drugs in her car? Why does she hoover them away in such a suspicious manner? Because she had drugs in her car, drugs that belonged to Lucy, and drugs that she got hold of after Lucy had been killed. I highly doubt we'll actually see this scene in the show, but I think it's metaphorically saying how Jane has disposed of some drugs somewhere along the line.
If Lola is indeed at the centre of everything, then they wouldn't have given her a close-up so as to obscure character from the suspect lline.
Stacey had the first close-up in the trailer for Archie's death episode.

I love these threads
I've had a long day at work and had completely forgotten about Lucy arguing with Ian before she left for the flats at Walford Common but that's my theory.
Call it intuition (or bloody mindedness!) but my money is on Ian being the killer.
However I did have a dream the other night I woke up in the morning and looked at DS on my phone and it said EastEnders Exit for Diane Parish...
At around 14:20 of this video, when the front gate is shut, it sounds like a prison cell door slamming. Ian is also shown the door by Mick earlier on in the episode. Perhaps Ian will receive similar manners from an employee of Her Majesty's Prisons a few months from now.
