I think there's lots of smug "I told you so" going about as far as Branestawm is concerned! It clearly didn't do well, but I can perfectly well understand why they gave it a go and wanted to put it in a big slot. We moan and moan about the same old Christmas schedules, but that's because when they try something else it can often flop quite hard! They'll clearly be gutted - but most people's solutions seemed to involve the rubbish John Bishop special, which would have been crushed, or a major attraction that would have significantly weakened another day.
Excellent figure for Skyfall, but then we are talking about the highest grossing movie ever in the UK. Premieres literally don't come any bigger. (Incidentally, Avengers - despite being enormous globally - is 'only' 19th on the UK list, so I wouldn't expect a repeat performance on Boxing Day).
Very poor for the soaps once again - and I don't think things are going to improve a whole lot from here. The BBC comedies will likely top tonight, but I'm not braced for anything more than 8 millions frankly.
BBC1 do a few family dramas each year and sitcom specials. The problem was the scheduling. Branestawm isn't Wallace and Gromit and Not Going Out isn't Miranda/Outnumbered/Mrs Brown's Boys. Not Going Out got a slot on Christmas Eve because it was there, not because it showed any indication of being a massive hit. It's like The Green Green Grass. Got a special because they didn't have much else. Avengers Assemble has stronger competition in Birds Of A Feather but should still do well. If not for Birds it would be closer to 7m.
Bear in mind those are consolidated. I think Skyfall could consolidate past Die Another Day's 7.55m making it the highest since The World is Not Enough.
Some going to top Die Another Day in 2004 which looks very likely. Terrestrial has taken a right hammering since then. Back when Die Another Day premiered, EastEnders was overnighting above 10m, some way above the 6.6m it got last night.
Already beat it in the overnights (although back in those days ITV were doing their split around the news trick).
A bake off Special I would say is very Likely for next Year and would be perfect for Christmas Eve.
I think they could run off one or two extra shows when they film the GBBO in the summer, have a Christmas theme, and it will fill up a couple of hours and not too expensive.
A Top Gear trailer after To The Manor Born today. And with no time! Brilliant! Just brilliant!
Am wondering whether the intended trailer is unsuitable for some reason and has had to be withdrawn and because of the holidays they can't produce a replacement so instead of nothing they are just airing the coming soon one, presumably now with a tx date tagged on?
Merry Christmas everyone - I hope you all get everything you wish for!
What a good rating for Skyfall; up 1.2m on the average DSRPG rating. Toy Story 3 also rated well, up 0.2m on the average. Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders were all hurt by the films though the latter held up well considering the crossover was presumably higher. Maybe 2015 will be the year ITV will look at the ailing soaps and try to do something about them.
Branestawm was a decent show for Christmas Eve but badly scheduled - it was on too late. And Not Going Out had no right taking that slot. That must be BBC One's worst Christmas Eve for quite a while, if not ever.
The Muppets performed well for Channel 4 and Gogglebox is becoming an extremely reliable performer - though 2.3m is down on it's normal figure it faced much tougher opposition on an off night. University Challenge also did well.
DSRPG Average Predictions (Christmas Day):
BBC One
15.10 Puss in Boots: 4.7m
17.00 Strictly Come Dancing: 7.3m
18.15 Doctor Who: 7.4m
19.15 Miranda: 8.4m
19.50 Call the Midwife: 7.1m
21.00 EastEnders: 8.2m
22.05 Mrs. Brown's Boys: 9.2m
22.40 Michael McIntyre's Very Christmassy Christmas Show: 4.7m
ITV
15.10 The Queen's Garden: 2.6m
16.20 Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas: 3.0m
17.50 Paul O'Grady For the Love of Dogs: 3.9m
19.00 Emmerdale: 5.3m
20.00 Coronation Street: 7.3m
21.00 Downton Abbey: 6.6m
Channel 4
20.00 Frozen at Christmas: 1.5m
21.00 Alan Carr Chatty Man: 1.3m
15.00 The Queen (BBC One and ITV combined): 7.7m
New Year week promises to bring a lot of surprises so why not dip your toe back into the water with the first week of Season 29 in the DS Ratings Prediction Game?
Will the Fireworks be number one show of the year? Will Queen beat Barlow? How will stripped drama Mapp & Lucia fair? Will Miranda go out of a high? Is Esio Trot how viewers would like to see in the new year?

After the last few days does anybody here think Christmas Day will post underwhelming ratings?
I did say some time ago that we could be in for the worse set of Xmas Day ratings ever. But I think there is just enough there to avoid that but nothing near 10m is likely. Am a bit more optimistic about EE after the last couple of days.
Bear in mind those are consolidated. I think Skyfall could consolidate past Die Another Day's 7.55m making it the highest since The World is Not Enough.
I think that's highly likely: last night's ratings were not tape-checked by Attentional (Overnights.tv is showing the film as running to the full slot of 20:00-22:45, and Corrie as 19:30-20:00). Assuming it finished early, that adjustment plus removing the breaks will probably take Skyfall past 7.55m even before timeshift is added on.

83% said they will watch Eastenders 17% Emmerdale and 0% for Corrie.

52% of Radio Times readers said they'll watch Doctor Who. Let's see how the ratings go! Won't match the polls!
Me thinks the Mirror poll had about 7 voters to begin with. Its readership has sunk so makes sense.
Corrie's gained a bit of momentum now............6%.
Let it go and have a drink - its Christmas.
The Mirror seem to be quite desperate.
I'm multitasking!
They didn't tweet the EastEnders producer their ratings story.
Am wondering whether the intended trailer is unsuitable for some reason and has had to be withdrawn and because of the holidays they can't produce a replacement so instead of nothing they are just airing the coming soon one, presumably now with a tx date tagged on?
It is truly bizarre!

Thank you to everyone who takes part in advance!
Self-selecting polls are of course entirely useless.
I am trying to escape the cooking but am wearing an horrendus Christmas jumper.
What is baffling is, Corrie is bad at the moment but is performing? :eyepop:

Noooooooo! I'm just drinking!
Corrie is performing a bit better than the other soaps but not really performing well.
