I did say some time ago that we could be in for the worse set of Xmas Day ratings ever. But I think there is just enough there to avoid that but nothing near 10m is likely. Am a bit more optimistic about EE after the last couple of days.
I have a feeling that Mrs Brown's Boys will buck the downwards ratings trend in a big way tonight.
Looks like the film Puss in boots is one hour twenty and there is a filler for ten minutes Puss in boots the three Diablos. That's at 4.30 with a twenty minute news.
Am I alone thinking that "Emmerdale" could fall under 5m today? It's stuck in first gear, and nothing redeeming about it.
What is baffling is, Corrie is bad at the moment but is performing? :eyepop:
No you're not alone - I can see that happening too - & have said so earlier in the month. It dipped to 4.69 2 years ago, but in an earlier timeslot.
It's gone very "Hollyoaks" in it's style of narrative - hence it's still relatively popular amongst the DS fraternity - but it's been on a slow decline ratingswise since Oct.

January will be a telling month for it.
It has it's following like most shows, but interest is declining in the show. I think January will be indeed telling, but if there is little signs of improvement - I think ITV will have to consider it's future. It's glory days are long gone. I remember the 2012 Christmas ep - sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo dull.
As someone who lives in a household where the soap viewers will hog the main TV tonight, I hope Emmerdale drops so far today that ITV decide to remove it from their Christmas Day schedule next year.

Lets hope all the soaps disappear from the Xmas Day schedules.

Yes ED just gone into freefall although I am not sure why?
DS, excluding +1 in its reports, gives Skyfall 6.33m. So Eastenders (I assume) beat it when they clashed. EE also a fraction ahead of Corrie excluding +1. So not a bad result for it, all things considered.
A fairly high +1 audience for Skyfall, then. 9pm a good slot for some people to slump in front of the TV after finishing their Christmas Eve preparations.
Liam Hamilton tweeted that ITV2's repeat of last year's Chrismas special of Catchphrase at 6.10pm was yesterday's most watched digital show with over 900k. That's pretty impressive.
Excellent ratings for Skyfall, and nice to see ITV put a Bond premiere back in it's old Wednesday night at 8pm slot after Corrie. First time in 10 years they've did that since Die Another Day, and boy did it deliver!
Having previously premiered Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace on Saturday nights was just plain stupid, and didn't get the best of ratings. They did the same with Batman Begins, however they are premiering The Dark Knight on New Years Day at 9pm. Not sure if it's the best slot for it, with a later start and the length running towards midnight, also up against a big episode of EastEnders. Could get around 5m though.

I think Shrek The Third would have done better had it stayed at 7pm. But BBC3 are showing them all again starting on Saturday. Yes really.
Of course, what BBC1 should have done last night is put Pointless Celebrities on.:D. At 8.30, even against Skyfall, it could have got 5m.
Next year BBC1 may have Mrs Brown's Boys: D'Movie at its disposal, in which case they can run the following Christmas Eve schedule.
5.30 Puss In Boots
6.50 News
7.10 Pointless Celebrities
8.00 Eastenders
8.30 Call The Midwife
9.45 Mrs Brown's Boys: D'Movie
11.15 News
11,35 Midnight Mass
Midwife loses its Christmas Day slot to Sherlock and D'Movie not needed for Christmas Day because there will be a new episode of the TV series there (plus another one on New Year's Day. You can never have too much Mrs Brown at Christmas, as this year's ratings are proving.)
Alternatively the Midwife slot can be filled with The Great British Bake Off Champions Of Champions Special.

The Dark Knight should do better than anything else they could put there but the opposition is going to be stronger and its a much older film so more are likely to have seen it.
Well I know EE always tries to do something at Christmas but I think it would be nice to be soap free. Although goodness knows what ITV would churn out instead.
Thats sad but quite true.:D Actually its quite difficult to think of a worse schedule than the BBCs last night.
They could have aired Holby City.
Or Waterloo Road..
I'm assuming PB was there to give a potential new comedy a decent post EE launch not clashing with itv soap. And NGO was there because it was pretty likely the last ever episode and it has been a good reliable performer for BBC1 despite never really taking off and they wanted to give it a decent slot for its send off. Skyfall was parachuted in late and I think BBC1 were hoping for something anaemic from ITV. But even when the film was confirmed I think BBC1 probably thought it would only get 5m tops so not that much of a threat.

I do not think Emmerdale will do well, it's against Doctor Who which gets a head start against little opposition then Miranda.

I'm not arguing over nothing. Also it wasn't me adding figures from a different channel in the first place.
Yes, even better. Maybe in two years time, when Christmas Day is a Sunday.
Meanwhile BBC2 last night:
Victoria Wood 1.85m
The Choir: 1.94m
Julie Walters: 1.74m
A solid evening for 2, just a bit below 2m when recent nights have been just above. (University Challenge was above at 2.38m.)
So was is broken into two parts?!
I set the film to record - but now I'm thinking it won't have recorded it all if it broke for the news.

But really, it was a lame effort.
BBC One, need a shock like this to wake them up I feel. Sadly its on christmas eve so I doubt the took much notice, bad night for them anyway.
Actually its very funny !!!
What honestly do the think they are plating at. Nill points for me on DSRPG
I'd say they need two on Christmas eve, 2 on christmas day, plus an entertainment/ sketch show type comedy plus one for Boxing day.
so they could do with 6.
