Your forgetting that Radio Clyde has been on air since 1973

I'm not. Trent had been on air for 36 years when it rebranded to Capital. There was no outrage.

In GLASGOW and the West the lsteners would be mildly annoyed.

The rest of us won't give a toss.

In Scotland the public would be outraged if the radio Clyde name was scrapped. The tragic bin lorry accident last week showed that the regions are needed as Radio Clyde acted and opted out of the network programming such as In Demand and aired there own show on Clyde 1 & 2, Dedicated to bringing the latest news and traffic updates which were needed and wanted by the public.

The other day some of my Scottish Twitter followers were tweeting and retweeting their outrage about Radio Clyde choosing to ignore this in favour of showbiz gossip about who Rita Ora is shagging and playing Pitbull songs on repeat.

    Quite disgusting really.

Yeah your right but if the Radio Clyde name was scrapped so would West Fm, Radio Forth and all the other Bauer Radio stations names in Scotland would be lost too. That would annoy people in Scotland

Interesting that a non-anorak 'typical' radio listener I overheard in an office in Hemel Hempstead was asking for Chiltern Radio when people were tuning in the radio.

This was just a few weeks ago.

I think this was before they knew exactly what had happened as that night I was playing Santa and dropping presents off at relatives and friends etc and had the radio on in the car from 5pm - 9 ish and it was all about the crash and the songs playing were in my opinion appropriate.

And were they outraged that their local station had rebranded to Heart six years ago and that most of the output comes from London or did they just want to hear some songs they liked?

I live in the Northsound area and most people realise the stations are pretty much dead now as far as local is concerned and I think a name change would barely register.

Clyde has more local programming than the other regions. On a Saturday night we have GBX with George Bowie while the other regions have floorfillers with james barr which is networked

I don't know, but they said they didn't want Kiss or Capital on. The women present didn't want either Smooth or Smooth Xmas.

BFBS Radio was chosen in the end :)

I've only ever heard BFBS or Kiss played in that office, never Heart.

Make the most of it, I can't see that lasting much longer.

I know and George Bowie had an illness a few months ago and he said he might have to cut down his work. If George goes Clyde will become like the rest

So they opted for a station based in Chalfont St Peter broadcasting to a worldwide audience. Localness clearly not a deciding factor in their choice of listening then (as is the case with the vast majority of non-anorak listeners).

Yet Northsound One's weekly reach remains around a healthy 40%. Not too many listeners in your area mourning the "death of local radio" then?

Well Chalfont St Peter isn't that far from Hemel actually ;-)

It was an unusual choice I must admit, considering this was a DAB radio with a full selection of stations from the 3 London, HBB and national MUXes to choose from :)

Nope and it justifies the drip feed of networking they have done I suppose.

Northsound 2's figures on the other hand have dropped of a cliff but there is the Am effect to factor in there not just networking.

If its local radio - I listen to Wave 102 in Dundee but I rather listen to Heat Radio most of the time, I am 50/50 on Tay FM/AM new rebrands as 1/2 but I do think the AM/FM should have been dropped years ago - but whenever I listen to Tay FM or Tay AM sometimes songs crossover (the only thing the number 2 aka AM stations to do next is play more old skool music including dance music then I'll be over)

Heck I remember more back in the 90's I rather have tuned into Forth 1 as to me that was a far better station to Tay FM, the only thing I found weird was a couple weeks ago listening to Dave Kelly with his email on the radio display saying Bauermedia yet I was expecting to see tayfm.co.uk (I guess all DJ's on Bauer are going under bauermedia email)

Also if my minds serves me right your "local" (choose your station) was exactly that but by 1am all output as far as I knew was from Glasgow ie Scottish Night Network so the Glasgow/Edinburgh changeover does not surprise me but isn't that what most AM output comes from these days and the FM is part "local" and by night comes from Clyde or down South?

Times change but will it be for the good only time will tell I think (I am not defending Bauer's actions they have done recently but there seems like a shift in radio though), I mostly listen to the DAB side of my radio than I do FM these days

Why would anyone listen to output you describe as "mind numbing"? Surely that makes a stronger case for radio not to broadcast this type of information?)

You moaning rotter, how dare you quote this.

Successive owners like GWR and GCAP had just about killed it anyway with homogenisation before Global wielded the final axe. After about 1994 it went downhill fast.

Here we go again.....anyone who doesn't like Heart is an anorak blah blah.....luckily there are still a few commercial stations around who actually interact with their audience and play music people want to hear.....e.g. Time 107.5 (Romford)....where you can (shock horror) phone email text or FB message the on-air presenter and they will play your request, even if it's not on a playlist of about 200 songs. They even have (gasp) some specialist music shows!! BTW I know quite a few of their listeners and they are not anoraks just normal people....

Still plenty of LR around here on DAB and FM: Eagle, Meridian, Bright, Jackie, KMFM...

It's not all Global and Bauer.

If I flick around the music station after 7pm here I'll hear a local accent on Central FM only, no wonder the local accents and dialects are being diluted and lost

If Clyde kill off GBX then god help them, they will have just shown they care not a jot about their audience

The only way GBX will go in my opinion is if George Bowie quits. I'm quite surprised that GBX has never been aired across Scotland on all the Bauer stations. Also if Bauer decides to have a Scotland wide breakfast show on the FM stations I can see them broadcasting Bowie @ breakfast to the whole of Scotland as he is the biggest name on Bauer Scotland's books at the moment. Even though I like George it would be a shame to see the other breakfast shows go as West FM broadcasts the brilliant Colin McCardle in the morning which is really funny and wakes me up at that time of the morning but George does the same.

As I recall, GBX was on other stations years ago, I know it was viewed as Weegie ned music up here and was dropped.

If Bauer did decide on a single breakfast show then they might need a bigger name as I doubt Bowie is that well known out with the Clyde TSA.
