The religous nuts would be rolling around in hysterics if they knew to what extent the very people they would love to slaughter were trying to justify and explain their murderous response to a cartoon.
We're not talking about defending the ones that slaughter.
We are talking now about defending the ones who don't deserve the abuse.
I know it's hard to accept that all Muslims aren't slaughtering people but try to imagine there are a few.

But how can you defend Muslims against "abuse" / satire without resorting to draconian blasphemy laws which outlaw mockery of all religions? This would be a massive step backwards for society.
From the exchange that was going on around page 209, where you were attempting to assert that the koran deserved to be considered more leniently than contemporary literature and summarised by the following post:-
Also, a word of advice: when you're writing so much distasteful and offensive stuff, if you want to be taken seriously it probably helps if you avoid using smileys which make it look like this is all some kind of a joke to you.
Where did I say that religious books should be given a free pass over other literature because I didn't say that or anything close to that.
I was btw channeling sins of the posters who ask for apologies over anything.

Use common sense.
The same common sense you would use with your acquaintances.
It's not just your perception of what caused world tensions though.
The other side is entitled to a perception.
That's the rub.
So you can draw inflammatory cartoons rashly if you ignore that.
People have as much right to draw cartoons as they have to be Muslims, if that's what they wish. When they are unable to do so because of bullying and threats of murder - that's where there's a problem.
Since, as we are often told, more Muslims than non-Muslims are killed by Islamic extremists, surely is it "rash" to be a Muslim?

Hopefully.
You dodged the question. (As usual.)
Laws need to be consistent. It would be massively discriminatory to protect Islam against satire (sending the message that terrorism works) while allowing other religions to be mocked.
it's hard to accept that all Muslims aren't slaughtering people.
I disagree. I'll admit that Islamic violence is head and shouders above rival superstitions in both number and brutality of attacks, but it would be disingenous to suggest everyone who is raised by Koranic scripture will automatically act out it's instructions.

Yes, shouldn't muslims stop being muslims, in case they offend other muslims for being the wrong sort of muslim?

If Hebdo was only mocking terrorists I would give them a medal.
They weren't they were denigrating religion and persons who didn't deserve it.
More than mocking.
Anyway you are late jumping in to the discussion and this was already talked about..

Really? Yet you still dodge the question of whether there should be draconian blasphemy laws to protect all religions from such satire? Surely you've come up with an answer by now?

Many French Muslims are radicalized in prison though.
The same as in the UK, however the vast majority are radicalized within their own communities, mosques, and under the influence of extremely Islamic imams/preachers.

Who asked a question about draconian laws before yours?

Yes and the vast majority of communities where French Muslims live aren't rich ones.

Crappy suburbs.
What's that got to do with anything? I live in a crappy suburb, and infact my nearest highstreet resembles downtown Mogadishu. That does not mean I'm more prone to violence or an excuse if I decide to murder anyone who offends me.

People have a right to not be bullied by cartoonists who want to tell them how to practice or not practice their religion when they are moderate Muslims
Who asked a question about draconian laws before yours?
Can you show me that post?
So you're not going to answer the damn question of whether draconian laws should be brought in to protect Islam and every other religion against satire to the same degree?

Kouachi weren't educated,

Oh yes, the cartoons!
Most of them are though, which is the point. Educated in the countries they now want to murder people in.

Or something
(I'm trying to follow bolly's logic here)

Not doing very well I see.
Try not to use smilies as Si thinks it suggests you are joking.
Are you joking?
I'd have thought that was obvious.

Sounds doubtful.
Sounds like you agree then.

Or Christians or Jews.
