The English national poet, Shakespeare, is well better than the Scottish national poet, Burns.

    Yes.

And both are better than the Welsh so-called 'national poet' Dylan Thomas.

Crop rotation in the 14th century was considerably more widespread after John.

To be fair though, he's not had a few hundred years to cement his reputation........

Goodness, I hope his legacy/renown won't last anywhere near that long.

I bet far more people can quote Burns than can quote Shakespere. One is a playwright the other is a poet .
Many people who proclaim Shakespere as the greatest bard ever have never seen his plays and many that have think he is dated and boring . I personally don't .
I admire both of them for many and diverse reasons.

They lived in different centuries and spoke different languages. It's an unfair comparison.

Is Robbie Burns the one in the string vest?

Shakespeare is a bit rubbish, but people pretend otherwise to make themselves look clever. Burns was a hack. Don't even get me started on blinking Joyce. Meaningless rubbish. Thomas was of course, like a lot of us Welsh, a lyrical genius capable of endless invention and beauty.

Fair do's though, take them all over that Frenchie git Satre. Makes me nauseous, the miserable so and so.

Edit: Dislike the onion selling fraud so much, can't even be arsed to spell his name right.

Shakespeare had that one good song and you never heard from them again.

I mean, if we have to take sides, I'm on the side of Burns. Burns' work never infiltrated my English & drama lessons at school, nearly boring me to death, unlike Shakespeare's work.
