Campaign to bring Waitrose to Aberdeen

Oil capital of Europe, The most millionaires outside London, Really successful John Lewis store, yet no Waitrose. This needs to change as there is such a massive demand and this is shown by the successful delivery service that Waitrose currently operate from the Stirling store. This campaign is for John Lewis Partnership to open a depot in Scotland as currently they don't have one. This could serve Aberdeen, Dundee and surrounding area's maybe even Inverness.

Who's with me.

I take it you would be the one who closed the door to heaven once you got up there so that no-one else could get in. Not surprisingly South Yorkshire has Waitrose.

l guess you could contact them http://helpandsupport.waitrose.com/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1006&PARTITION_ID=1&secureFlag=false&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=2805 and see what they say. There's also the option of doing a petition https://www.change.org/start-a-petition and letting Aberdeen media outlets know like newspapers, websites, TV (STV highland region?) and radio.

I've got an M&S Food outlet plus a Waitrose near me. Good stuff certainly but more expensive :o than Aldi or Lidl.

They have gave mixed messages in the past, they said when they expanded into North Glasgow that they wanted to open in Aberdeen but would need to open a new depot. Last summer they said they had no plans but in Autumn the delivery service started.

Love the food in Waitrose. They have the best supermarket sushi. The ready meals are on a par with M&S.

I definitely think they would do well in Aberdeen... Maybe there's no suitable site?

Well, it's safe to say that there'd be plenty of fishes around north east Scotland with which to make sushi to sell in the new Aberdeen Waitrose.

Inverness has two 24hr Tesco Extra, one 24hr Asda, one large Morrisons, two Co-ops, two Aldi, one Lidl.. That's probably more than plenty for a small city

Yeah but up market supermarkets don't really count though as they are specialist. You cannot really compare smart price ASDA with Waitrose.

Well you can, that's how you realise that one is better than the other.

Does anyone remember Wm Low? They were Scotland's top supermarket chain, headquarters in Dundee, but got taken over by Tesco about 20 years ago :(

Yeah but you could have 7 Starbucks and that place could be filled up the coffee shop front but say you opened Cafe Nero there then people may swap to there when they realise the hot chocolate is superior. That's what I am saying.

Where can Waitrose locate in Aberdeen? Is there space at the retail park by the beach? Or take over a large unit at Union Square (the bit just outside where M&S, TK Maxx, etc, are.)

I recently moved to England. I previously lived in Glasgow, and Inverness - when I regularly took the train at weekends to Aberdeen (or sometimes the Megabus  ), also know Edinburgh and Dundee well although I've never lived there.

Glasgow has a nice Waitrose on Byres Road which use to be a Somerfield. :)

Waitrose's newest store in Scotland is, I think, on the outskirts of Helensburgh 20 miles from Glasgow which was purpose built on brown field land. It opened there only a couple of years ago.

So if they can do it in the Central Belt, it seems strange that Grampian & Fife are missing out on Waitrose!

The Cults/Culter area on the outskits of the city would be the main demand area's being the wealthiest. This is where the millionaires live :o (not me). There are a lot of grassy area's around here but it's quite scenic and so I don't know if they would like a big building opening here. So Kingswells would I guess be the best option in the west of the city. There is a road up from Cults/Culter to here and there is open land here being on the edge of the city. Roads wise this is served by a dual carriageway coming from the city to the west but from 2018 a bypass from the south will open meaning the trucks could bypass Aberdeen City. So Kingswells would be my option.

The people of Cults/Culter currently shop at Sainsbury's Garthdee and M&S in Westhill. Westhill is quite wealthy too infact west of Aberdeen out towards Balmoral (where the queen has a home) is quite scenic and wealthy. I guess that's why they call it The Royal Deeside. I think they might travel to the Waitrose too if it opened.

The South Scotland stores are served by English depots. Stirling I guess is as far as they can go without losing the freshness.

Waitrose is a Royal warrant holder... maybe the Queen could command them to open an Aberdeen store where she can get her groceries when she's at Balmoral? :)

Remembering about Balmoral has opened up a completely new market. There is about 30 miles of wealthy people, horse riding and country clubs. :o This is currently being cleaned up by Tesco but if Waitrose opened all the way along the demand would be mental. They really are missing out. Ballatar a small town serving Balmoral really is a tourist magnet. All the businesses are local like a local toy shop, butcher, sweet factory etc and they survive because they serve the Royal family and most have royal warrants. There is even a rural Hilton hotel out there. I went camping here with the Scouts and it was brilliant.

There are other things out there like a million castles and Go Ape! etc. Aberdeen City might not have a lot for the tourist but Aberdeenshire does.

That was before the 1970's. Since then Aberdeen has become more cosmopolitan. Butternut Squash is one of the best selling items in the supermarket where I work.

Dundee has went the other way though.

I'm not. I want one in Inverness first. I have a £1 bet with my husband that there will be one here at some point. It's been 17 years since we made that bet so it had better come good soon! They may as well build a John Lewis at the same time. And a Hotel Chocolat. And everyone I know wants Paperchase back (used to be based in Borders).

Used to do our weekly shop in the one in Rosyth.

I've never been in a Waitrose or M&S food supermarket.
