I think its a great idea. They've been more into Eurovision values more than a lot of European countries. Put in a good entry and I think they could win it, but it needs to be very good.
It will also generate a huge amount of publicity for the show.
If Israel can compete, then so can any nation outside of Europe.
All they have to do is pay into the EBU like Israel.
You can't pay to be a full member of the EBU. It's about Geographical location. You can pay to be an associate member, though, which does not grant you the right to enter Eurovision.
Well that's an unlikely birthday present. Not sure if I want to keep it or sell it on though lol!
As long as they don't win due to novelty votes, why not? As long as it's a one off, why not? As long as this doesn't become a constant new feature, then sure.
Shame that Germany would get to host if Aus did win as they have only done it recently when you compare to other nations i.e. UK, France, Malta etc. Infact Malta did a great job with Junior Eurovision that would be my pick!
Overall I am in two minds about this, but I am choosing to embrace Australia into the Eurovision family and can't wait to hear their song.
Well we can't complain about Israel and other potential Middle Eastern countries competing now because geographically they are much closer to Europe than Australia and some are EBU members.
If this was a permanent fixture for the show then it would be a terrible idea.
However as a one off treat for Australian fans and just many of the ways of marking the 50th Anniversary I think it is a fantastic idea. Can't wait to see what they cook up.
I'd only want them to win if they had a genuinely good song and not because of novelty reasons but hopefully the juries would prevent that anyway.

Happy for them to have Interval Act but not compete in the ESC.
Im really happy for them. They love Eurovision - so why not.
The party will just be greater with the Aussies in it.

See, I think they're in danger of winning from getting people voting for the novelty.
That being said...I love the idea.
The jury will shoot that down though I reckon

Thanks. Sorry I should have read the article before asking the question

I read it can be any city in europe
(also: its not a plebiscite, its happening people, doesnt matter who is against it. )
I'll guess their artist at being one of:
Diana Rouvas, Dami Im, Jessica Mauboy, Reigan Derry, Samantha Jade, Young Justice, Karise Eden or Havana Brown.
Thanks to the decimation of the Aborigines, yes it is.
