Completely forgot we got our countries last night, too busy watching useless stuff on TV.
Very happy with my good country, although I have no specific entries in mind yet. Since I didn't make a list for the bad ones, I expected the worst. The country I got is quite close to the worst, but better than I expected.
Why do we still allow pre-release singles in this competition? Sending a song that is going to be UK top 10 tomorrow feels a bit against the spirit of it.

I think he's probably talking about the Charli & Rita song ?
I personally don't have any problems with it; after all it's just a song.
Well a rule is 'never been in the UK top 40' but since it isn't technically, yet, I personally don't see a problem with it. Since it wasn't at the time of submission. :)
Found a pretty good song for my bad country which should be able to make the semis at least, but I find myself in a bit of a problem for my good country. I think I'm looking so much for perfection that I'm probably letting plenty of finalists slip by me...

Agreed, looks like Rita was at 7 in the midweek chart but I think if it isn't in the official top 40 yet, which it isn't, then it's fine. There's no real way of stopping people from entering pre-release singles because there's no way of predicting for sure whether a song will chart or not. I think Foxes won in a similar situation last year and there are others like Gotye who went to number 1 more than a year after they were entered here.

Although to be fair in this case there is because unless it's going to drop from 7 to out of the top 40 in the space of a couple of days it's clear it will chart, though I suppose it could potentially do that.
I'm not overly fussed, people out there will judge whether it is acceptable or not, and some will not vote for it purely on that basis, so it's going to be disadvantaged to a certain extent anyway. It will just be weird to have a song which is effectively against the rules when the QFs open even though it wasn't a few days earlier
My personal two pence - the singles update chart is an official chart, published by the Official Charts Company. If Charli XCX and Rita Ora are sitting at #7 there, then the song isn't eligible for the contest.
That's how I'd run it if it was my contest. But it ain't.
Tbh there was one contest last year when I Will Never Let You Down was eligible and I wish I'd managed to send it before it charted, easily my favourite Rita Ora song.
Forget about the rule itself and think about why we have the rule - to stop people submitting already well known, popular songs. Entering a song that is about to go top 10 isn't in the spirit of the competition. I would just say no top 40 and anything due to be released in the UK in the next two months. But whatevs, people can make their own minds up.
