I'm liking the sound of this show more and more! Yes I like seeing familiar faces but I'm well up for having members of the public, in any case some of my favourite celebrities are the ones I'm least familiar with at the start, so that angle doesn't really matter to me.

I just hope none of the poor sods get lumbered with Judy Murray or Anne Widdecombe as a mentor. Is it too much to hope Lisa Riley isn't involved? :o

Bad news, Riley is mentoring Janette's partner:(
Please can't someone give this woman an acting job, surely she could go back to Emmerdale.

I can see what you mean about a specialised 'dance' leg, it would definitely benefit would-be Latin dancers. Though pointing the foot is also part of certain ballroom steps, and, as said, I know of at least 1 ballroom dancer who managed well with an artificial leg. But things are improving all the time - as proved by the para-Olympians etc - so I can't see why, what you suggest shouldn't be possible.

In this article, Natalie says that Cassidy has switched to a blade and now he's really getting it. I think he may be wearing it in the photo and it looks a bit like a shoe. A blade has a curved sole, so it could be that when he bends his knee the leg gets slightly longer and it looks like his foot is pointed. If he straightens his leg, then maybe his leg is effectively slightly shorter and his foot looks flatter. Very clever if that is what works, but it would mean he's dancing the opposite way with both legs to make them do the same thing.

Amy Purdy wearing blades for DWTS.

    Hi Sue,

A picture of an ebullient Michael with Alison Hammond.
    http://i2.dailyrecord.co.uk/incoming/article5176049.ece/alternates/s615/JS52001908.jpg
I initially thought MIchael might be hard to motivate for Strictly, but he is actually a very big fan of the show and I love this quote from him.
Michael says: “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; life is about learning to dance in the rain.”
That tells me he has a very good approach to life and that attitude will help him on Strictly. His mentor may be Alison Hammond?
The Tango gives Aliona and Michael a chance of doing something different and memorable.

I think all 6 pros are caring people and very good at working with people.

I'm surprised too at Trishna taking on a Jive, but it will be interesting and hopefully an example of what can be done to manage MS and her other illness and still achieve the unexpected.

I expect Anna will do well and may be the one to beat. I expect a lively fun Charleston. Jake Wood is her mentor.

I thought they might have given Janette and Phil a Latin, so it will be interesting how the Foxtrot goes. Janette is very good with people and Phil seems to be a very theatrical showman type, so I think the dance will be quite a production and not so much a standard Foxtrot.

A VW seems a straightforward dance for Heather and Ian. There is usually not a lot different that can be done with a VW so it will need to be well danced to impress a lot. Hopefully Heather has dance potential and can train hard. Russell Grant may be her mentor.

    Cassidy's mentor is Kimberley Walsh.
Regarding Phil and Janettes foxtrot, I was wondering if originally it was an american smooth foxtrot but with him injuring his knee they have cut out the lifts. It seems a pity as he is a showman I was expecting something a bit punchier. Having said that They already look like they laughing with each other so we may have a fun filled foxtrot

Hi Sue, it is actually an American Smooth Foxtrot. Janette confirms that in this interview from yesterday, starting at 1:35 into the recording and again at 1:50. Phil has lost 3 weeks training after having knee surgery on a torn cartilage because of injuring his knee on the first day of training.

The trailer is very short, but it is Louis Smith doing the somersault at the Zumba class where Trishna gets her reveal. I like the tilt of Cassidy's head when he's trying to figure out what's going on.

He has a fantastic teacher in Natalie and with some ballet in his background, he should have good arm shaping and good posture if the new leg works well.
Cassidy used to be a cheerleader - which can get you laughed at - but....

Four of the pros talk about how it's going.

    http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/strictly-come-dancing/news/robin-windsor-the-peoples-strictly-stories-are-seriously-incredible-video

I wonder who came up with Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps for Michael and Aliona's Tango? I'm not surprised they are having to work at making it look like a proper Tango, but Aliona is good at solving problems like that.

    An article on Cassidy.

    http://www.stamfordmercury.co.uk/news/local/deeping-marine-cassidy-to-appear-on-strictly-special-1-6590680

The extra info in it is that Cassidy's wife is a dancer and the BBC plan to make The People's Strictly an annual event.

From Phil and Janette's radio interview, it seems that Cassidy and Natalie were flown to Madrid to see how they Paso and Ian and Heather flew to the home of the Viennese Waltz - Vienna.

According to this Janette and Phil still have not started training, crumbs

In the radio interview, Janette said that they were doing some training, but also said that she didn't know what Phil would be able to do because of his injury. She also said that Phil would get the same number of training hours as the other 'People', which sounds fair as they all have different abilities and limitations, so the fully fit ones don't get an advantage of more training hours.

With that song, I expect Michael's Tango will be a tongue-in-cheek Tango in a night club with Michael trying to impress Aliona.

I'm expecting a lot of props but hoping there will not be a plethora of backing dancers - in fact I'd prefer no backing dancers at all - ever!

    An article about Trishna.
    http://www.mstrust.org.uk/news/article.jsp?id=6677

    Louis Smith is Trishna's mentor.

Arn't Jake and Abbey mentors as they were in the advert

    Jake with the reveal
Abbey with someone in a dress

I would be insulted if Lisa Reily/Russell Grant/Alison Hammond were my mentors. I would want someone who could dance

    One more thing

    Go away Lisa Reily

I am not sure about this. I am guessing that the mentors job is to help with the limelight side of the role, which the peeps would be fairly new to. If this is the case then Russel, Lisa and Alison are all very comfortable in front of the cameras. It is Louis that I would struggle taking advice off. Lisa will make it about her though
The team of Cassidy, Natalie and Kimberly must deserve a pure glamour medel

Lisa Riley is a mentor! Sheesh, is there no peace? Could we maybe have a whip round and buy her off? What on earth does she have on the producers?

What does she have to offer apart from dancing side by side and gurning? Tips on how to do the splits (shudders) 😩

Just when you think it's safe to enjoy Strictly...

Well whoever got Louis got the Jackpot because the other 5 are distinctly average..!

Ah well, it's all in the name of Charity so I imagine it'll be a fun series above all else!

I know, I only watched the last 2 series so never saw her compete in her series, and I'm already sick of her! Can't imagine how the rest of you must feel about her. Getting to dance on Strictly, then getting her as a mentor - its like a wonderful dream followed by your worst nightmare!

Based on nothing much in particular, as they're all fab, Anna and Cassidy are my favourites at the moment. :D I'd love Anna to do well in particular, as it'll be nice to see Robin score well for once.

Speaking of scores, do we know what sort of scores we're expecting? Are they using the "Week 1, 30/40 Will Be Top Of The Leaderboard" system, or the "Christmas Special, No-one Will Score Below 9 from Any Judge" system? :D

I watched Scott & Baily and Lisa was in it.. Might have been way before her Strictly adventure, but still went like "Oh no not her in here as well.... "

Really looking forward to tonight, hope they all do well...
