Maybe, but that means crossing London (Waterloo - St. Pancras), I reckon I've gone cross-country and changed at New Street. (just at the moment though there's rail replacement buses between Banbutry and Leamnington Spa)
... in my opinion there were too many court scenes but I understand the need for them ...........
Really?
I found the whole Joe trial and the court scenes a waste of time and added nothing to the dynamic. The trial was a plot device to get Miller and Hardy back togther in Broadchurch, that's all.
There was perhaps 100 minutes of drama in the whole piece.
You're probably right that forum feedback might not have any significant impact on a decision to recommission a series.
I'd have to disagree. Looking back at Life on Mars, the writers (Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah) spent too long reading "The Railway Arms" fan site and came up with the ineffectual Ashes to Ashes to tease the fandom.
If you take the last episode you realise that S2 ended in a good place. There was a well worked reveal plus the (unsurprising) twist of Joe getting off.
The problem is the fact that the episodes that lead up to it were just garbage.
Hopefully there'll be lessons learned and S3 will get back to what made S1 a decent piece of TV. Perhaps there's still enough to turn it around overall. If the writer really did have a 3 season story in mind then that's great, but S2 felt very much like a bolt-on for much of it.
To be fair, I said "I don't want negative comments on boards like this to threaten a future series". I wasn't being specific about Digital Spy. You're probably right that forum feedback might not have any significant impact on a decision to recommission a series. However, I think that negative comments for the sake of them (which is often the case) are disrespectful to all those who work hard to make an enjoyable drama series like this. After all, there's a hell of lot worse on TV!
I hate EastEnders because it always seems to be unmitigated misery. However, I don't go on the EastEnders forum to moan about it; I simply don't watch it. I appreciate that millions do enjoy it and that the standard of acting, etc is very high.
I suggest, when series 3 starts, you start a "Broadchurch Series 3 Appreciation Thread" and just post comments on there, that way you won't need to read any negative comments.
"How is Adam?" :D I don't like Eastenders either but you could hardly miss that clanger last week. I've had to sit through enough to know the acting is mostly OTT.
Unless you watch TV alone you have to sit through a lot you don't like. People should be free to comment negatively if that's how they felt.
I missed the clanger because I didn't watch it! I did catch the end of the last live episode (for curiosity) and thought the live acting was amazing, especially Adam Woodyatt. Still unmitigated misery however, so I won't be watching again any time soon!
Yes, people are free to comment negatively; I'd just prefer it if they didn't for the sake of it (as some seem to enjoy doing).
I'm actually a bit worried about the second series after seeing the mess the same writers made of Broadchurch.
That's true - the end of S1 was concluded neatly (except for the fact that I swear Stephen Dillane's character had 5 kids and we only saw 4!). To get another situation where he and the French officer were working together on a case would be highly unlikely.

I wouldn't worry,Chris Chibnall and co are excellent writers ive read many of his books -always so fi I may add,but what he's written in Doctor Who and Torchwood have always been fantastic,I'm sure the second series will be just fine
I'd have to disagree. Looking back at Life on Mars, the writers (Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah) spent too long reading "The Railway Arms" fan site and came up with the ineffectual Ashes to Ashes to tease the fandom.
I think that's maybe your opinion though,as from reading the forums at the time when Ashes to Ashes was on it was maybe just as popular as Life On Mars obviously for different people though,
I personally think LOM was better but that's not taking anything away from A2A which I loved too,I certainly wouldn't have called it Ineffectual or not even on the same breath as Broadchurch series 2 but hey that's my opinion
So we know what's going to happen in series 3 then. Trials for Lee, Ricky and Claire will fall apart because Hardy kidnapped and imprisoned Claire, Miller lived with and socialised with Claire and Hardy lied to all of them at times, manipulated them and was responsible for Lee and Claire getting a hiding. Lee from Ricky and Claire from Lee. Then he and Miller interview them alone with Claire's allegation being ignored.
They'll be represented by the new dynamic duo of Sharon and Jocelyn and be found Not Guilty.
The whole thing was quite farcical but one interesting issue was how one is treated when found not guilty. Nobody really believes it

Sorry, didn't see your post. You are right, that was my point too.:)
And I don't suppose either you or Gomezz saw my post a day or two earlier on the very same point.
Nothing personal, don't want to put either of you down in the least, but.... I'm having a bad day so I'm feeling the need to trumpet my superior detective / TV critic / couch potato skills a tiny bit. Please forgive me!
In post 2821 on the 23rd, I said:
'Rohypnol gets through the system in 24 hours'.......
........In a living body I daresay that's true. But I VERY much doubt that the same applies to a dead body!
Poor little Pippa only had a few minutes to start digesting it before Lee smothered her. So I reckon her body should have been dripping with the stuff.
This series really has been VERY weak on fact-checking!

But didn't Hardy say that having been in the water for three days (I think) and starting to decompose the chances of finding any traces were zero?
I reckon that everyone on the original Sandbrook investigation team spent their whole time shagging each other and just pretended to have checked alibis, followed up clues, searched houses, done tests on Pippa's body etc.

It was amusing to watch the last confrontation when both Beth and Ellie yelled at Joe. Beth "acting" angry and emotional by twisting her lip, and then Olivia Colman shows everyone how it's done by showing true disgust and anger. With her whole face and body.
And why on earth would Lee kill Pippa, when he obviously is no killer. To strangle a small child with a pillow, now that takes one hell of a psycho.
He even warned Claire not to give Pippa the flask.

Lazy writing is my take on it. If people on this thread are highlighting the likelihood that dead bodies don't process recently imbibled rohypnol (unless we have a resident CSI who can clarify the point ;-)) I'm sure it can't have escaped the writers either but they chose not to address it. Or didn't think the viewers would be bright enough to notice.
Not according to this Sky press release but the director for T2 is the same as BC2. Don't click if you don't want to read a short paragraph describing the basis for the new series.
The Tunnel 2: Debris (working title) is a 8 x 60 minute bilingual drama series in English and French. The series is a Sky Atlantic and CANAL+ co-production from Kudos and Shine France Films.
Writer Ben Richards (Spooks), Director Mike Barker (Broadchurch), Producer Julian Stevens (The Fall). It was commissioned by Anne Mensah, Head of Drama, for Sky and Fabrice De La Patellière, Director of French Drama and co-productions, for CANAL+. Executive Producers for Kudos; Ben Richards, Manda Levin and Karen Wilson. Executive Producer for Shine France Films; Nora Melhli. Executive Producers for Sky; Jo McClellan and Anne Mensah. Principal photography started in the UK and France in March 2015.
And anyone who thinks Chibnall's Doctor Torchwood output was impeccable, his Cyberwoman was one of the most memorably bad things I've seen on TV.
Thank God that tedious depressing tripe is over - for now at least.
Hahaha. Sounds as though you'll be giving series 3 a go depite finding series 2 tripe - me too. Though I didn't find it quite tripe; last episode was definitely. Not up to the standard of the first series by a long way.

Rubbish.
I agree with most of your post, particularly about Lee. However, it's possible that this is just Claire's version of events. The "flashback" was during her interview.
What does he know? Is he a pathologist? Does he even watch Silent Witness?
If only he'd thought to contact the Silence Witness team. They would've done the forensics and the detective work and he could have sat back and enjoyed his house by the water ;-):D
