I always get emotional when I think about my little dog :
I wish now so much I had taken little video clips of him, though I know I would cry every time I watched them....
Please don't have regrets. Photos and video are all well and good. However no technology exists that can capture those extra special moments which happen randomly - usually at their choosing - which constantly made you fall in love with them again and again. Memories beat technology every time - and no bugger can nick them from you..else I'll be paying them a visit on your behalf
What a beautiful post, I actually have tears running down my face...aw gawd, postman is knocking on the door now.
Thank you for that..though I wish I'd not made you cry. I hope the postie ain't nosey, and asks what's wrong. Explaining simple things can seem monumentally difficult on the spot...at least for me
I'm sorry but that's the sort of thing that makes my stomach heave, same as when people put their plate on the floor for the dog to finish their food.
Oh I wouldn't let it upset you I am sure the washing temperature is high enough to kill any bacteria from his sterile tongue...then we have this amazing product called soap...wonderful for cleaning things.
You probably have more bacteria on your hands right now then I have on my clean dishes. ;-)

Postie was inquisitive, I just explained that I was delighted to see him with my parcel of a brand new laptop...with that he put his hand out as if he wanted me to kiss it, then I realised he had that signing pad thing strapped to his wrist.

:D
Perhaps just as well you didn't. It's March now..A 'Special Delivery' at Christmas is very expensive
That's the clincher isn't it. My monster was 5 last Feb (had him from 8 weeks old), and despite the fact that sometimes he genuinely can piss me off, and wish I'd bought a goldfish instead - he makes me laugh several times a day..and go awww when he turns on the cute. Manipulative little gits aren't they..? And long may it remain the same.
Honestly, being alone here, I can't imagine what I'd do were I not to have a dog..or a psychopath looking like one at least - to fill up my day, and make it better. His soft side is real soft though in fairness. When I'm stressed or upset, he switches off the rambunctious attitude, forces himself up next to me & will lick me silly (not much effort), thereafter just sit pressed solidly against me - his version of trying to comfort me...and yup, secretly I love him for that. Can say that now - it sleeps as I type
I hope our two never meet - no offense. By the sounds of it, with their collective mischief, we'd be in serious bother..lol.
Awww. My dog does the same if I'm upset, it's incredible how intuitive our pets are. I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who doesn't like animals, they are missing out on so much love.

I don't think animals "love".
My son loves our cat, we have had her since he was 2yo, he used to go to sleep holding her paw and she always goes to bed with him, even now and he's 14yo.
But it's not love but that's OK isn't it?
We shouldn't need animals to "love" us. They share the space and use us as far as their instinct allows. And we use them.

I feel genuinely mistrustful of people who don't like animals. Fear is not included obviously - that can't be helped.
But these people who say they don't like dogs...or cats..etc..? Just bemuse/worry me. Creatures who wish humans no harm, and given half a chance will adore us unquestioningly, and display that love in their own individual fashion.
And yes the level of intuition is something you can 'explain' to someone without a pet, but impossible to appreciate unless you have one and experience it first hand.

Another person who appears incapable of distinguishing between those not wanting pets and those who are cruel to animals. Why do so many on this thread think the two are mutually inclusive?

It really is incredible.
What are you blithering on about...?
Tell you what..breathe deep, count to whatever number you really, really like - and re-read my post that you quoted, then spoke complete unrelated nonsense about...
Ready ? And breathe in..:)
OK. I'll assume now that you've managed to digest the easy to interpret post I made. I'm sure you feel a bit silly now, but that is OK. Nowhere did I mention anything pertaining to people who are cruel to animals. Moreover, animal cruelty wasn't even in my mind - never mind post - when typing my reply.
Yet somehow you've extrapolalated a nonsensical conclusion which honestly I still can't make heads nor tails of.
Maybe it was one of those times, where a thought in your head 'made sense' and you typed it. Believe me, so much gibberish appears because of this very malady. Possibly it was something else - no way for anyone to know. I suspect even you don't have a rational explanation.
It was kind of interesting mind - if nonsensical - to get an insight to how another misinterprets the most basic of sentiments, and then rearranges them in a clumsy fashion to suit a point they want to make which on closer inspection is utterly pointless.

Thanks for that..seriously

Your textwall of hyperbole was unnecessary. The previous post you made was fairly clear to me, and despite this subsequent cringeworthy effort, remains the case. People who don't share the same simpering mindset as you when it comes to animals 'worry' you. That strongly implies that you believe them as leaning towards malicious. If not, then please explain how people who don't dote on animals are 'worrying'?
Plus, you 'don't trust people' who aren't animal lovers? Really?
Do you get offended when eBay sellers advertise their products as being from a pet-free home?

Not so easy to bait. You quoted me. Made a comment based on it which bore zero resemblance to what I'd posted. Then vociferously ridiculed by myself as a result. The End.
Och well we love our budgie only got him end of January, so we are not quite 'flock' status..his cage remains open when we are in, he had an adventure in the first two weeks, I took him out, brilliant flyer..he loved the 13ft high curtain rail..he went back to his home eventually Now he is learning the land, popping in and out on foot for now in his own time..I will be getting him a honey treat for easter...too soon for a card
Every year I get a birthday card and present present from my mums dog - card tells me that the dog sends lots of licks and tail wags!!!
Today one of my friends was sent a Mothers Day card from their 2 dogs ( although handwriting looked suspiciously like her husbands).
Our cats are a much cherished part of our family but I think both of the above are a step too far.
Am I alone in this?
When I was a kid, we used to get a Christmas card from Mr and Mrs Denyer, Picco (dog), Thomas (cat) and Porky (guinea pig)
Then another one from Evelyn Cripps and Miss cute Fluffy ball (her Siamese cat, who was actually quite vicious and hissy) "From Evelyn Cripps and Miss Cute Fluffy Ball who also sends her love xxx"
I love my cat, but I'd never use her name in a greetings card.

Short and sweet
I'll take your second refusal to sensibly explain how I supposedly misunderstood you as confirmation that I didn't.

10/10 for effort..but sadly nil point for success.
VERDICT : Must try harder. An awful lot harder..hehe. I'm just chilling here right now..and have enjoyed your funny attempts to get a rise...psssst. Been around a VERY long time
Don't let that put you off. I'm just time out in the nicer threads for a refreshing change - and I'll toy with you for as long as you care to woefully proffer bait...You'll be fine, I paw playfully..no wounds

So what young Sir is next on the itinerary..?
You really aren't doing much except derailing the thread and proving an incapability to discuss differences of opinion. Please, I'm all for helping people feel good about themselves, so enjoy your self-congratulatory ramblings.

OK...If I must...
Oh dear. So easy to consign those we disagree with as trolls, isn't it?
I will never understand people who french kiss their dogs (or whatever that grotesque act of affection 'twixt owner and beast is supposed to be). Slobbering, shitting and stinking pets turn my stomach. I respect animals but having them in my home - no thank you.
So as for OP's question regarding toothless simpletons who treat their pets as if equally sentient and sentimental beings - these people are amongst the most intolerable within society; alongside Tolkien fanatics and Tory voters.
What I find hysterical about this is somebody reacting to a certain set of people going over the top by going completely over the top.
I never understood the mentality of those clicking on a thread that has something they don't like or enjoy in the title. I don't like football, I don't go into football threads and call all those who do simpletons or the dregs of society. So someone who doesn't like pets clicking on a 'I know we're a nation of animal lovers' makes no sense to me at all. Unless of course your aim was to troll.
I don't buy my dogs Christmas cards etc. I do give them a treat on their birthday nothing big, usually just their favourite food and this year my Aunty bought them a massive bag of sausages for Christmas. I was very grateful and they enjoyed the sausages.

I clarified my position on why I dislike pets and my trepidation of those who take the pets too far - sensibly - during subsequent posts, which you can see for yourself. Just because I disagree with being an animal lover, doesn't mean I can't express my opinion on a thread like this.

I get you, I understand you like and respect animals but would not want to keep one as a pet..It is straightforward to me..no judgment on anything here..I understand xx

At what point did I say you couldn't express your opinion?
I said a found it odd that people deliberately go into threads about things they dislike. Or am I not allowed to express that opinion because you don't agree with it? And apparently enjoy talking about things you don't like or enjoy.
I also couldn't care less if you like animals or not and again at no point did I express an opinion about your dislike of animals. The fact I do like animals doesn't mean I expect everyone else too. In fact I have zero interest in others like or dislike of animals.
My observation about you reacting in an utterly over the top manner to Insult a group of people you perceive to be acting in an over the top manner however, still stands. You're doing exactly as the people you're maligning are. Taking something to a pointless extreme. And It seems like those you're slating you have no comprehension of the fact you've gone over the top.

Being 'over the top' only applies to my first post. All other posts have been perfectly reasonable and rational. Prove me wrong.
