The winner of The Voice UK this year will release their debut single after the live final on 4th April. This is the first time the winner’s single will be available to buy from midnight following the live final.
The chosen track is ‘Lost Stars’, originally performed by American singer, actor and The Voice US coach, Adam Levine (from Maroon 5), and written by Gregg Alexander, Danielle Brisebois, Nick Lashley and Nick Southwood. ‘Lost Stars’ appears in 2014’s ‘Begin Again’, a film about the music-business starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, along with Adam Levine. The track was recently nominated for Best Original Song at the 2015 OSCARs where it was performed by Adam Levine to an American audience of over 36 million people.

The winner's single should be original material, not a cover.
They definitely expect Stevie to win. This song is most suited to his voice and style.
I agree, it should be original material if they want to be artists. Can't go around copying other peoples songs.
In the recently concluded Voice US S7, all 4 finalists performed a different original song. The executives seemed to think it was risky, but all 4 songs sold very well.
To complete the circle,, a S8 contestant just covered one of those songs and successfully moved on.
Of the girls, Sasha probably better than Lucy.
But that is before any adaptation.
Us not getting to hear them beforehand though is unfair IMO, it might help us decide who we want to vote for.
Whoever wins, will the single get into the top 50?

i agree .... never heard it before until today and it is a great song ...and it is versatile enough for all 4 to adapt. Very good and fair choice.
Initially I think the winner's single will go top 50 on iTunes.
However, will Radio 1 playlist the song?
Will there be a music video ready made for broadcast on MTV/The Box/4Music etc...
Will the song be available on streaming services like Spotify?
If the answers to all the above questions is "no" then it will bomb.
I suppose they're trying desperately hard not to copy The X Factor but I really think all 4 finalists should perform their version and let the public decide on a level playing field which version they prefer.
Otherwise it just smacks of favouritism that we will only hear one version AFTER they've won. So they won't even perform the song before the voting closes.
I like Stevie but if this all being engineered to ensure he wins, it could have a negative knock on effect. You simply can't force feed an act into the mouths of the public - they will eventually turn their heads away. That's exactly what happened with Hear'Say and Liberty X ended up having the last laugh.
It also happened in series 2 of Fame Academy. The final was so one sided Alex Parks was only required to show up, yet ironically second place Alistair has had more success as a songwriter since whilst Alex faded into obscurity.
Although I wasn't aware of it at the time, they did release downloads of all of the contestants' songs that were performed during the live shows. I do know this from another forum member on another post that this was scrapped this year possibly due to lack of interest. Apparently, Will.i.am has been very critical of the UK version for delaying the release of the winner's single.
Personally, I do think it could be risky move for a newly crowned winner to release an original song as a standalone single. You would have to take time in prepare in advance to bring in the right songwriters and also ensure that the song suits all the artists that would perform it on the night.
And in 2013+2014, all the songs were on iTunes.
Granted, given how badly they all did (45, 30, 75, respectively) I'm not surprised people have forgotten
The auditions get X Factor style ratings.
The live shows don't.
I just hope that the single gets a bit of buzz on the radio, despite who wins I would like them to do well
Only the winner's version is being released, so they're not singing it in competition on the show. If they are allowed to sing it after they win, the performance will suffer. Who can sing competently with confetti and hysterical relatives mobbing you?
So fans are expected to buy a song they have never really heard performed. Strike one.
Further, the song is not available for purchase during the finale. If you want this mystery song, you have to wait until ITunes releases it at midnight. (Or more likely the next day) That completely rules out people buying on impulse during or immediately following the show. Strike two.
Finally, by not selling the DLs during the live shows thus far this season, viewers have gotten out of the habit of looking to buy. Casual viewers are not going to know to look for the song. Strike three
It's almost as though they went out of their way to make it harder for the winner to succeed. Good luck to whomever takes the title!
Will this replace any of the anticipated songs (new cover, reprise, duet) or be in addition?
And does this mean the first cut will get rid of 2 instead of 1?
If not, it'll be stupid to open the voting lines for 10 minutes after Stevie performs last (can't help but read into even how on The One Show they kept Stevie until the end).
The producers of The Voice clearly want Stevie to win. Don't get me wrong, there's something about Stevie I like but I also like an open playing field without the winner being made so blatantly obvious beforehand - it tends to make for a surprise winner anyways.
That's more like it. Am glad the final two will get to perform the song.
