For someone to sell out don't they have to start off as cool, edgy and anti-establishment?

Exactly. The OP hasn't got a clue. He can't even find the music section.

I think he has just got older hasn't he?

I mean I think he's a cock knocker but let him get on with it

I am also not sure he was ever 'the voice of his generation'

Of course he wasn't. And "cock knocker" is an insult I never heard before!

What a terrible accusation to make about the boss-eyed, tax-dodging, Tory-loving blandmeister.

    Classic! :D

Howled with laughter at that one!

Not exactly Bob Dylan going electric, is it?

He sold out the moment he joined a manufactured cheesy boy band.

Precisely! Hard to understand how someone from a pop boy band can sell out other than their ticket sales at a concert venue.

Firstly. this should be in the 'Music' section, even though I don't personally believe that Gary Barlow qualifies as music.
Secondly, then has nothing to "Sell Out".

Fair play to him for doing something different. Hardly selling out.

I'm just sorry that the producers junked the excellent original score for "Finding Neverland" (which I saw and enjoyed in Leicester) and replaced it with pop songs from Mr Barlow.

If we indulge the fantasy for a minute that Gary Barlow actually has anything to sell out of, it's interesting that the OP considers writing Broadway musicals (assuming he's got that correct) is more of a sell-out than taking the gig on X-Factor.
