Reasoms aren't excuses. Undrrstanding behavior isn't condoning it. Except to right wingers.
But judging from your posts you clearly don't understand it, and appear to be making up bizarre alternative realities to explain their behaviour in order to exonerate Islamic ideology from any blame.

Judging from some posts, anyone who seeks to understand why, needs to be flogged and condemned.
Is there a secular caliphate yet? Im thinking it's just around the corner.
If you read my posts, you'd see it's anger first, then religion.
Reasons aren't excuses. Undrrstanding behavior isn't condoning it. Except to right wingers.
I certainly wouldn't consider what you've offered as 'reasons' , people lured by BMWs , 5 star living , nutella pancakes , IS want girly-girls dressed in designer outfits , they're angry about something , nothing to do with islam etc. etc.
Endless dodging and obfuscation , no , I wouldn't call that an attempt to understand behaviour .
I'm not sure everyone would agree with you that ISIS is turning the clock back or are medieval.
They are actually quite modern in their approach to terrorism and even co-opted some western war fare techniquesz
So it's still about religion, even if there are other motivations.
IS are medieval in there 7th century for of Islam.
Muhammad didn't have tanks. They will use suicide bomber or as they like to call 'martyrs for Allah'. They also behead with people swords and bayonets.
It doesn't more barbaric, that's because it's 7th century Islam in the modern world.

I don't think that's all I said though is it. Speaking of obfuscation. You did a fairly good job of misquoting me. But don't let that stop you as it's fairly standard here.
I'm glad to see you are interested in learning more about Islam.
As I am.
Now about those peaceful hadith.,,,
What about them? Radical Islam is a growing global crisis, and you want to weed out and focus on the "non offensive" parts of the problem. It would be like focusing our efforts on investigating how the Third Reich managed to get their trains to run on time during WWII.

Really poor analogy.
The subject isn't fighting ISIS, it's ISIS not Islamic.

It's not at all, as although you personally may believe the Islamic State and the countless other Islamic Terror groups are not Islamic, they are all under the very strong impression that they are.
You Can't Understand ISIS If You Don't Know the History of Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia
But the Saudi Ikhwan approach to Islam did not die in the 1930s. It retreated, but it maintained its hold over parts of the system -- hence the duality that we observe today in the Saudi attitude towards ISIS.
On the one hand, ISIS is deeply Wahhabist. On the other hand, it is ultra radical in a different way. It could be seen essentially as a corrective movement to contemporary Wahhabism.
ISIS is a "post-Medina" movement: it looks to the actions of the first two Caliphs, rather than the Prophet Muhammad himself, as a source of emulation, and it forcefully denies the Saudis' claim of authority to rule.

I doubt that they are under the very strong impression that they are Islamic if they try to recruit people who are ignorant of religion. Wasn't one of the terrorists reading Islam for Dummies?

c'mon , is that any way to speak about the Koran ?

Do you mean people who born and raised as Muslims.

Perhaps you're right, and the zealots screaming "Allah Akbar" as they blow themselves up in crowded marketplaces don't actually believe they're going to be magically transported into the Islamic heaven surrounded by subservient virgin girls, and are merely doing it for the kicks.

What about the university educated students etc.
Read the Huffpost article.
The recruiters look for those who don't know the religion well, and recent converts. They know that anyone else is going to see that what they are doing, isn't Islamic.
The caliphate is doing us a favour there. If some fat bloke from Luton makes the journey to the Islamic State, under the impression he will be a heroic warrior of Allah, but discovers life under a hyper-devout Islamic theocracy isn't as fun as he thought, then I certainly don't want him coming back to the UK.

Except they aren't hyper devout. I'm not sure why you keep apologizing for them.
Can you give me the name of one credible scholar who thinks they are devout?
If they were devout, surely one credible scholar would know about it?
Clue you aren't devout: no credible scholar will touch you with a ten foot pole.

The recruiters must have psychic powers.
There hasn't many reports, if any, of 'recent covert', one the people stopped in the UK was the son a Muslim councillor.

I don't support it no matter what it's for, do you?
well you're the one that keeps making excuses for the scum running off to join them .

So no it's not as if religion has NO role.
Just a secondary one.
That would almost certainly be the Islamic standpoint on the matter.
We understand why, they want to turn the clock back and have caliphate.
'It's anger, then religion.'. Thanks for confirming that it's about Islam.

Yes religion is probably not the main motivator.
