On the Autobahns ..... about 110 in that car and about 115 on the motorbike.
Both times according to the speedo, and given that they exaggerate by about 7-10% .......
It was more exhilarating on the bike. After that driving fast in the car was just dull.

160mph , a quick blast then slow down to the speed limit.

Just once on the motorway, hardly any traffic. I felt terrible afterwards as it's totally irresponsible, I haven't been above 90mph in years.

Never been above 35mph on a 30mph road.

Drving for 22 years and clean licence.

    Acceleration is more enjoyable.

    78 (so within the limit + 10% + 2mp ACPO guidlines), honest.

To those who use the M6 Toll as a proving ground, you might like to know that the police do venture on to there from time to pick a few off. I went up one Saturday not so long go and saw 4 nice cars parked up on the HS in front of various police vehicles, some of which were marked and one a plain clothes Volvo with the lights in the grille. 160 on a public road is covered descriptive by the legal term 'what a f****ing stupid speed to go at'.

    ^^:D^^

Poor non-trendy Volvo in 'plain clothes'. It just wanted to be loved.

Don't think I've ever gone over 80mph a. because I think my car would explode if I went any faster and b. because I'm not a total bellend.

130 on the A30 into Hayle, Cornwall. I was visiting my cousin who lives alone in the middle of Barripper. She woke during the night screaming in agony clutching her stomach so I called for an ambulance, 20mins later no ambulance called again told it was on it's way another 20mins, no ambulance and she was shallow breathing really clammy and pale. So threw her in the astra vxr I had at the time flew through some country lanes and picked up the A30 at Loggans and hit full speed into Hayle it was coming up for 330am by this point and the roads were empty. Turned out she had appendicitis and they operated a few hours later. She could have died, so I'm not even sorry really.

Racing on nearly empty motorways probably doesn't do much harm, I think we're all curious about the speed we might reach, I've not done much, in a 1.0 L VW Polo I got up to where the speedo said 90, but it was probably more like 82, it was nearly at 5000 rpm in that car! Doing a normal 70 in it was about 4000.

Haven't tried anything so far in the Citroen C3 1.4 L I'm sure this would go over 100 this time.

    SNAP!

My car has a top speed (on paper) of 80.3 MPH. I coaxed it up to an indicated 90 which was flat out downhill - at 5000RPM. I felt like I was going to take off so soon saw sense and slowed down. Just had to see that the car could do the claimed 80.3 MPH so can now get on with more important things knowing that should the need arise I can make the claimed speed.

Back in the day it was 70mph in my 'souped up' 1980s Ford Fiesta MK 2 with only a 957CC engine - with K & N Air Filter, 4 branch manifold, loudboy Pipex Exhaust, XR2 pepperpot alloys, full body kit + Ford escort Cosworth 'Whaletail' attached to rear boothatch. Thought the car looked 'The Dogs Knackers' back in the day as they say but looking back, its was a car full of cheap tatt and barely moved due to all the heavy crap I'd put on it (the rear wheels would rub against the inner wheel arches when 3 more people sat in the car)!!!!!!!!

On the M23 on the way to Brighton, down a downhill stretch of the motorway - the steering wheel was juddering so much I thought the car was gonna take off!!!!! :D:D

    I'm a sensible 'grown up' now!! ^_^

100 a few times, just for the number, but nowhere near that for ages. 80 briefly to pass quickly, but never sustained.

Loads faster in sims though. 250 in a Veyron in Forza (4 probably). Worst virtual car I've driven for cornering. 140ish most days in a Skip Barber formula 2000 on iRacing. Loads of fun and safe... :)

Two weeks ago in Germany on the autobahn - 150mph.
What a pleasure. No "safety" cameras and cars still flying past me.

Over here 70mph, of course. On the unrestricted sections of the Autobahn, far, far quicker.

Never more than 1 or 2 miles over the speed limit and that's only because of some dick head tailgating me. I'm not into breaking the law and think people who speed are fools especially ones who do it with their kids in the car.

175 on a tuned FZR1000 at Bruntingthorpe. Actual not indicated, the thing was clocked to 185 and it was off the clock. Noise aside, on a runway it's about as exciting as trundling along at 40.:(

In a car, probably well north of 170 in Skyline on an Autobahn, that thing had something like 650bhp but I was more interested in staying alive and keeping my sphincter closed.:)

Now 30 on the pushbike seems very fast. I seldom drive above 60 at all in the car either.

FWIW the old 3.0 Granada Mk1 probably had about 10bhp more than a 1.8i Orion, as someone posted earlier, plus the Orion wouldn't be wallowing about like a drunk camel once you go over 90.

I don't get this. OK you are a conscientious driver you profess. So why would a 'dick head' tailgating you' make you drive an extra 1 or 2 mph faster ? Are you that observant of your speedo you can actually tell? Assume for a moment you are..then given this miniscule increase in pace you claim because of aforementioned 'dick heads'..how has that imperceptible/laudable (?) (believeable ?) increase in speed in any way assisted with the tailgater following you..?

Did they suddenly brake and, drop back to a safe distance and return your driving experience to one of safety ? Or was the miniscule speed increase (for reasons that escape me) so neglible as to make not a jot of difference to the fool who tailgates and won't notice such a minor deviation in speed by you..?

Do you think that either increasing or decreasing speed because of a tailgater helps ? If so how ?

That is simply not true. I'm not saying I've done the same speeds as the OP with the tiny penis, but I've certainly averaged 90ish on dozens of occasions.

    I think that's called a life saver. ;-)

As a passenger - 156mph in an imported Nissan Pulsar (on around a j-plate) in 2002, racing another car on a single carriageway road through a huge industrial estate. The place was closed down for a car event so not quite as reckless as it sounds.

As a driver - about 120mph in my mercedes c250 sport on the uncamera-ed stretch of the A13.

    Just over 140mph.
This was years ago. Me and a friend was coming home late one night from an event. We was on the M25, he was in his car, I was in mine (Mercedes vs BMW). We started overtaking each other, it eventually turned into a flat out race.
Our cars reached just over 140mph and I remember the needle on speedometer was shaking maxed out. We would have probably gone faster if the cars would have.
Really silly...not proud of it and felt bad after, never again.

Well you're a bloody idiot that deserves a ban. You think that excuse will hold up in court? Grow up.

Would she have been telling you to "go faster " if you had a blow out ??? Totally reckless. Only sad you did not get caught. Menace of the roads

A few years ago I borrowed my boss's car. Unused to a high-performance vehicle, I was shocked to see from my speedo that I was doing 107 on the M6.

I then looked in my rear-view mirror and saw some idiot driving right up my @rse.

So, the fastest I've ever driven in a car - and I still get tailgated.

Close to 150 mph. And it was all perfectly legal in case anyone gets their knickers in a twist.

Sounds like you weren't paying attention to much then?
