It does seem strange as would have thought the winner (if not sunrise radio) would need 6 months to get studios built etc.
From BizAsia seems the uncertainty is getting the licencing committee together, if they decide to give the licence to another station other than Sunrise there may be a handover period to get studios sorted. Lyca seem to be renting studios until it gets it's own sorted.
But from
Since the licence was advertised, Sunrise Radio has desperately been tweaking its management and output but it remains to be seen if it will be enough to save the station
My recollection is that the signal here in west London was OK on 963 even though the transmitter was in east London. However once Glade Lane (Southall) was switched on, 972 became the dominant channel here... No problems with splatter here, so maybe the coverage areas are configured so as not to cause problems.
More to do with both transmitters being synchronised so audio loud is simultaneous on both, with some GPS smarts involved (carriers in sync?) It would make sense if the upper sideband of 963 was clipped, and lower SB of 972 but I can't find any info on that.
Adding 972 upped the strenght in the west. Boosting 963 would not push as much power, and both were under power limits to protect the primary users (NDR 972, YLE963) which have now vacated both channels.
If you want to hear how it could have been done less well, try 1413. Audio on both outlets on that freq are out by ~1sec. 13332 fills in but it is strange how Premier have not done as good a job.
Would the fact that Sabras and Sunrise are part of the D2 bids have any affect on who wins this?
For instance Sabras application and service is mainly financed by a loan..so surely ofcom now have to also consider that should they win the D2 then they financials for the 963/972 would be affected? Would the same go for Sunrise?? Have these two shot themselves in the foot?
Scanned copy of a letter sent to ofcom last week, sent to most media this morning. Letter allegedly from Don Kotaks brother claiming don is involved in fraud. Allegedly
I think the current Sunrise Radio is owned by an unconnected company (although might have some shareholders in common) so this won't affect the station.
It started as Viva 963, the female-oriented station launched by Lynne Franks (PR legend satirised as "Edina Monsoon" in Absolutely Fabulous).

I remember at the time one of the reasons given for the extra transmitter was because the station was struggling and reception wasn't very good around where all the advertising agencies were.

But from Sunrise still want the licence.

The date after that is 14th April. Given Sunrise's licence runs out on 2nd July I would expect it would be decided at one of the March dates.

What makes you say that?
I have seen the letter myself.
The plot thickens..
963 is was Caroline Overdrive for us of a certain age.

But no news on Sunrise holding onto AM?
There's plenty more twists & turns due before the outcome in April.
They are bidding as Asian FX. I was surprised they didn't apply for 963/972 as Panjab although they already had bought 1584 by that point.
I wouldn't be surprised if the stuff about Sabras is someone mischief making - in a potentially libellous way.
So it's def April?? Leaving it abit late are they not?
And yes agreed, am sure plenty more twists with this will occur.
Did there not used to be the award six months before a licence expired?
In a way would be good to go for Share radio who lost out on national DAB which will be something different for London?
Caroline didn't apply for it sadly.

They seem to have a maximum radius of 10km, or 6 miles in old money.
By contrast 963 goes quite a long way, I have had it feintly on my car radio in a few spots near Derby, once you get out of the city.
Unfortunately yes seems such a shame they have lost all there fighting spirit these days and are prepared to settle for flea power on AM.
