I stopped watching Emmerdale for a while and have only just got back to it. I can't say I am very impressed with the new members of the cast. What an insipid character that Finn is . What is the point of him. A geek who looks about 12 and yet another gay character. Am I correct in thinking that Robert Sugden is now also gay or is that just an act.
The only good new person is the delightful Carly, what a change she makes from the miserable likes of Debbie , Ali and that vet. At least Carly smiles and makes amusing remarks, ok she takes advantage of Bob and is rude to Wendy , but better than having the scowling Ali in your face
Like you, David, .I come and go with Emmerdale, always hoping for an improvement, and usually being disappointed. I agree with you about Finn, an insipid, childish characte; the recent episodes I saw with him, a nurse and Val were obviously written by a primary school child. . But I disagree about Carly. We did not need another nasty, spiteful female in the show, we already have too many - Tracey, Rachel, Val and Debbie for instance. It would have been nice to have a pleasant girl for a change.

Nobody would say 'yet another straight character.'
Seriously? I wouldn't trust a word anyone said in the entire entertainment/media industry.
I know.
This poster must live a very sheltered life if they don't like liars.
If they are this annoyed about a Series Producer seemly telling lies, I would hate to see how they treat their family and friends, cause everyone lies.

Victoria is a nice character, and so were Donna and Kateh, but for some reason they got rid of them. I think what Carly puts on is a bit of an act, I hope they can tame her a little bit and she can become a decent type of girl, but still with the amusing put downs. If I were her father or brother she wouldn't get away with the stuff she comes out with, but it does make for good entertainment.
The fact that she is an absolute stunner has no bearing on my opinion of her

I think said poster should "Get a grip".
No everyone doesn't. Mainly those with something to hide do.
Other producers didn't. If they wanted to keep something quiet they just said nothing.

Hello my friend. I haven't warmed to Carly either but I remember that Emmerdale has past form for introducing female characters as brash, loud, annoying and confrontational. I'm thinking in particular of Alicia who was horrible to Leyla when she first arrived.
As you say hopefully they will calm her down in time and let the other aspects of her character develop.
Oh and of course no-one, including me, would have even contemplated that you were influenced by her attractiveness. That would be like thinking that I mainly like Cain because he's gorgeous - as if!:p

So you know someone who has never told a lie in their entire life:o
This witchhunt on Kate Oates is getting old.
NONE of us know what exactly went on, unless we happen to be on speaking terms with Sammy Winard. So if someone is please enlighten us with the answer so these posters can move on to something else.

If I recall correctly, Verity Rushworth only agreed to return for s short stint. Her heart and passion is musical theatre.:)
I would like to know how long most actors are prepared to go without finding work before they decide to leave the pforession and look for something else? A couple of years at most would be my guess.

Indeed. Some of the criticism of Kate Oates is perfectly valid, but some take it too far and it's unpleasant to see such personal abuse. It's almost a vendetta for some.
The human that has never said a lie themselves has yet to be born.

ETA: Robert is bisexual,
Jewels my little treasure. I agree with everything you say. Yes Carly should calm down a bit, but you fancy Cain! This guy with a battered face and the charisma of a dead pigeon,
One more catch up . How did they deal with the death of the actor who played Alan Turner

Have to say it - Jeff Hordley is gorgeous (and from as much as you can judge from tv and magazine interviews is a lovely person too, so he'd probably be incredibly embarrassed to read this:D)
Cain has many faults but lack if charisma is definitely not one! That's how he's managed to draw so many women to him. He's not a charming smoothie but it's there nonetheless.
Out of all the new characters, I've gone through periods of liking Finn but then he reverts to childlike behaviour and I go right off him. I think last week killed him for good in my eyes. I clearly have a very different sense of humour to whoever devised those scenes:o
Ross has been a disappointment so far. Pete and James could disappear and I'd have forgotten them in 5 minutes.
I like Robert and Chrissie (especially now she's onto Robert). I don't like Lawrence or Lucky, but they seem to be interesting characters played by good actors.
Emma's fun to watch but short term I imagine. It's early days for Carly but she could be good.
Alan was newly returned from a motorbike tour with friends (offscreen obviously). He went to his room to rest. When Betty went checked on him, she found him dead.
Not a lot of stuff happened actually
It was the tortoise of Episodes where everything moved slowly possibly so Rhona could appear in every scene which she seemed to have a good go at.
Vanessa is still pregnant
Adam thinks he is over older women, until he sleeps with Diane that is, given his love of sleeping with the mothers of his girlfriends.
Loopy Lush and the Gormless Moron are back smelling of cheap booze
Doug was happy to see his daughter
Jimmy is scruffy
Bernice shouts a lot
And Tracy wants to escape being in Finn's paltry shadow and shag Jimmy at the first opportunity
Kirin is 18 going on 118 and his father organised a party, how thrilling.

When Laurel returned from holiday she asked Rhona how Arther was, no mention of April. This to me is a far more interesting storyline than the suspect "alcoholic after a few binge months". Okay, they are most likely going to tie in the drinking with her being unable to cope with the new stepdaughter but her behaviour is a bit in your face. There is a far more complex story there.
