Just watching his speech now in the aftermath of the Church Shootings, seems to me he is strongly suggesting that the Right To Bear Arms will have to be considered.
I do think it would be of benefit to the country if they did ban it.

I think you are right, but it's still shocking if they go ahead with this.
Actually, he has tried. And he gets told by the Supreme Court to pound sand.
For an aledged constitutional lawyer he has a very poor understanding of the founding documents of the country he purports to lead.
Just look at their post history, tells you all you need to know.
There are probably serious issues and debates to be had regarding this issue...but this is not one of them.
Can't the Constitution be amended (I appreciate it takes a lot to do so)?
and just like every other incident the gun fans get their triggers in a twist, quoting and a-quoting the constitution ad nauseam, and nothing get's done about it
see you at the next massacre
Therefore, the solution is to nuke the USA.
Unfortunately, in the States, there's too many of them to contend with.
The picture of that dorky looking kid, and the fact that anyone like him can pretty much do this sort of thing over there, so easily, is so messed up.
Well the 2nd Amendment itself was a change to the original document. The American constitution was intended to be a dynamic document and even the lauded founding fathers realised it was not perfect (as opposed to some modern day nutters who treat it like inflexible scripture). That's why they established the Amendment process in the first place. But It would take a general political consensus to modify or change it. Not just a majority. So unless the American Public has a dramatic shift in opinion most politicians and courts will uphold the status quo.
I think it would just result in more of these sprees tbh. When the next madman starts gunning people down who do you rely on for protection? As I've said many times before on this subject, I don't think a British solution would work the same in America because the two cultures are simply too different. The minute guns were outlawed and someone later died in a gun crime, the government would be crucified as the accusation would be that by denying that person the right to carry a weapon, they had put them at risk of others carrying. We don't really have a culture of carrying weapons for our protection in this country, but they do and that's what I don't think British type legislation would work there.
But then you only have to look at New Zealand for the model of how it can work with what they did after the Port Arthur Massacre. A lot of similar objections and a lot of the same sort of trouble but they pushed through with it and the legislation passed.
The second amendment is as embedded in American culture as the right to freedom of speech and the right to vote for your leaders. Trying to repeal it is like telling their population "Democracy is now outlawed and you can only say what I allow you to", it would cause a second American civil war and with the amount of guns they have it would be carnage.
*also known to love caps
Civil war is a an exaggeration but yes, any attempt to repeal it would be met with widespread civil disobedience. The genie is out of the bottle and they have to live with the (increasingly) frequent mass shootings.
Yes its been amended many times even on gun laws [IE criminals were barred from holding a gun licence ]
That meant checks had to be carried out where as before anyone could buy a gun.
There have been other instances of amendments to aid law enforcement and the intelligence service .
The constitution gave citizens the right to bear arms against a tyrannical Government
The only things I have seen on TV is the Government through its agencies bearing arms against the people.
YES!!! Whatever it takes to put the wheels in motion. I think the days of the wild west should be put where they belong. In the past.
Since when did any OP govern discussion? Are we all suddenly unable to speak for ourselves? Or are you just using any opportunity for a dig at another FM?
When the main cheerleader for the gun industry wants dangerous people to have guns "as it's their right" you know the whole process is seriously ****ed up.
Though I did notice that Colt went out of business this week - probably because the boss of Colt was notable for advocating controls on obtaining guns
To ****ing true!
