Government to force all web sites with 'adult content' to request ID

"I want to see age restrictions put into place or these websites will face being shut down."

Mr Cameron proposes that websites ask for bank details or credit card details

http://news.sky.com/story/1527857/cameron-threatens-to-shut-down-porn-websites

As with the filters this will no doubt umbrella all sorts of websites such as advice sites etc

So every adult website visited, the public have to give their card details? Right.

    Like that's going to happen.

    What about the foreign ones?

50% of it will just move to the dark web, and the other 50% will revert to hedge porn

Brb setting up a "free" pornsite, 6 months worth of card details should see me retire nicely.

Completely and utterly ridiculous . Does David Cameron actually use the internet ?!?!??!
I have a better idea. Why not just leave the service provider opt in / out choice as it is ?? You know where the parents of children actually parent their own children . Bizarre concept I know.

F***ing Tories a pain in the arsenal.

I suspect there would be some universal gateway that accesses government approved sites. No doubt there will be a charge for it.

Does Davy boy get that the number of hard core porn sites hosted in the UK (or even the EU) is vanishingly small and even these can simply relocate at the drop of a stupid piece of legislation. I still find it hard to believe that people such as he are so ignorant of the reality of the net even after speaking to such idiots in person. I'd like to believe that he does know but is simply spouting rubbish to appease the new puritans but I doubt it.

You could look on the bright side there. Quite a lot of the idiots might be priced off the web. And since it seems to me there's hardly any porn sites under Our Leader's jurisdiction, we'll all just look at American porn. Women are much the same the world over with their clothes off:D

love to see some American site getting a letter from DC saying that they're going to have to implement some sort of account checking system with the UK banking system. Probably it'll have about the same effect as the US sending DMCA letters to the pirate bay based in Sweden

Does this buffoon even use the internet? His increasingly erratic speeches suggest not. I've long thought that he is suffering some kind of stress induced breakdown because he quite clearly isnt "all there".

He's been like that all of the time - policy springing fully formed without any evidence of thought beforehand.

A step in the right direction, but requires much more thought and should be part of a much bigger package of regulation. I have never subscribed to the idea that "the internet" is outside of the law.

You should get together with Dave on the matter, should be quite the meeting of minds.

I appreciate that you are petrified about about losing your porn. Rest assured that the credit card idea will never be implemented.

How will they enforce this? Last time I checked, the UK Government didn't own the internet.

So what power do they have over a pornsite on a server outside the UK? They can try to block but we all know ways around that.

And watch of security? The Government are going to force people to give their details to dodgy porn sites outside of their jurisdiction?

Out of interest what's this "package of regulation" idea of yours? When you talk about the internet being outside of the law you're not really talking about anything different from the physical world. I'm sure none of us subscribe to the idea that the physical world is outside of the law yet we still have police forces and criminals, some people are bad no matter what you do. Makes no sense to be "regulating" (I know just what that word usually means) stuff left right and centre because of it.

    From the article...
One option is to set up an independent regulator which could force internet service providers (ISPs) to block offending sites under the threat of fines.

Wouldn't a step in the right direction be to get parents to actually do their job and parent their children instead of thinking everyone else should do their job?

The internet IS outside the laws of this narrow-minded country as the UK doesn't own the internet.

But you seem to be of the opinion that forcing your opinion on others is a correct thing and so you will never understand what is fundamentally wrong with that either.
