#GBBO returns with a peak audience of 10 million and 9.3 million average on @BBCOne last night! Highest launch episode to date!

    Proved you wrong Cylon ;):p

That is fantastic, it will keep growing and growing this year.

Bloody hell! And this is why I don't play the ratings prediction game Lewis! :D

That's an excellent figure for this time of year! Thought 8m+ would be the figure. As others said, the buzz was there for its return.

That'll stink up Friday nights then. Honestly. I don't know why they keep these dead shows going when they rate so poorly - Life Stories, The Cube

But....but.....but ......that cannot possibly be correct! After all, GBBO is overwhemingly middle class, and for the over 40's, with no sex, no violence, no swearing, no sob stories, no tantrums, no mention of benefits, and the star is a woman in her 80's!!!;-):D

It could be worse - they could have Phillip Schofield on Life Stories !!! :D

I was out with that Bake Off rating by over a million viewers. I didn't expect it to return that high.

I will catch up with it tonight when I eventually get home - a quiet hour with a cup of tea, two cats and a slice of cake. Oh dear, how old do I sound now hahaha

What have BBC1 got lined up for after Bake-Off when Great Wonders finishes? As much as last night's nature series was great, it has yet again failed to hold onto much of GBBO audience.

Why not have Bake Off and The Apprentice start the same night.

And still the BBC won't learn.... Fabulous rating for Bake-Off - maybe helped a bit by the poor weather last night, but still brilliant.

Plenty of sexual innuendo and definitely one sob story last night!

Or at least have some overlap during their respective series. Maybe they think it's too much in one night.

No but it undoubtedly got a big leg-up.

Yeah, they probably think it's too much having two contestant based shows together. I'm surprised they haven't paired Who Do You Think You Are with GBBO since both have 10 episode runs.

I agree, it should have been left to it's original time line. There is an article on DS this morning saying that the storyline was brought forward. I guess ITV value Corrie more than Emmerdale, which isn't how it should be. Both of these shows are the main stays of ITV week in week out and Emmerdale should be a part of the anniversary celebrations of ITV.

    Thanks Lewie

Look at Channel 5 from 8-10pm! They were ahead of BBC2 and Channel 4! Very impressive!

It must be irritating for the Emmerdale team to see ITV fall over backwards for Corrie and not give Emmerdale more attention.

This Emmerdale storyline should have been a big Autumn storyline like 'Killer Cameron' was with acres of promotion and more potential viewers around. Could the Rugby World Cup have stopped that?

The only problem is it encourages them to keep doing more Benefits shows. Anything with 'benefits' in the title seems to be a winner for them.

The producer said that they brought it forward quite recently. So perhaps the Rugby was a consideration. It does however make for great summer viewing, but first week of September would have been a fantastic opportunity to draw viewers in for the autumn following the summer.
