Strange Signal Problem - Help required

On my recommendation, the in-laws bought a 9200t on Saturday.
On install, it appears that certain MUXs aren't giving a good enough signal to find all available channels.
I took my box round on Sunday, and it's the same!
This is odd for 2 reasons:
They have a wideband loft installed antenna. They live less than a mile from Sutton Coldfield transmitter - you can see it from their living room window.
They get a better signal if a portable aerial is used!!!!!
Any ideas?

This is odd for 2 reasons:
- Their other freeview box (an Astratech) works perfectly
- They live less than a mile from me, and my signal is perfect

I originally suspected that the signal was going over the top of the house, they live so close!!!
Are these suitable attenuators, from Maplin??
Clicky
Also, 6 or 12db?
Edit: Sorry. Didn't read you post carefully enough. Yes, the ones you (and I) found would be suitable.
Cheers for the help....
Thanks again...
