New @BBCOne drama series #DoctorFoster launches with 6.1 million viewers last night

That's a pretty good rating. The drama itself was crazy and twisted, plot was questionable but still enjoyable.

Good rating, but lower than I thought. Its done better though than anything else scheduled after Bake-Off.

Somebody mentioned last night that DF was terednding on Twitter. Well I believe that when a show like Bake-Off is on, a launch of a new programme after often gets more chat because it follows such a big show.

This is similar to how TXF in its height affected following programmes.

Grand Designs returned last night at 9pm so 6m for Doctor Foster maybe optimistic. Bake Off? Not a clue.

EDIT: Just realised GBBO and GD were on at different times.

I remain hopeful for the 10m for Bake Off! :D

9.49m for Bake-Off last night, and an amazing 6.05m debut for Doctor Foster.

Brilliant rating! Slight drop from last week but we should see the audience share before making judgements.

ITV just cannot compete. This is their 60th year and they continue to stumble. Fincham is really needed to be replaced, some frsh eyes need to be given to ITV's downfall.

You could say that it is Bake Off's lowest number in a month which is true, but at the same point you can't take away from the fact that it is consistently around the 43/44% mark which is amazing for any show, let alone a midweek programme.

Higher than I thought for Doctor Foster it did not seem to me to be all that compatible with GBBO audience, maybe the presence of a well know star has boosted it.

I would say I don't understand how this show is so popular, but then I remember IAC is getting similar and even bigger figures.

Grand Designs is in the 9pm hour opposite Doctor Foster. Looks like they managed to coexist.

They have the RWC to come obviously but it has been a poor year, soap heavy non descript schedules saved only now and then by a few popular but aging formats. They may make money but its a sad sight compared to the past.

I don't need to even mention how impressive GBBO's ratings are. But yeah :p

That in my opinion is brilliant for Doctor Foster. And very very good for the opener of Grand Designs.

Jeez, no hope for C5 I'm guessing last night. And BBC2 may have struggled too after the increased competition.

I wonder, how did ITV do?

For a Wednesday drama, which for years have been low, that's a good rating for Doctor Foster. Puts it ahead of Doc Martin in overnights for the week. Didn't see that coming.

I'm guessing ITVs 9pm slot was in the low 2m considering last week The Nick opened with 2.4m, with increased competition I can see it at around 2.1m.

I imagine CBB is low. I've just given up on this year and only watch evictions now.

It's quite funny as EastEnders originally launched as a 7pm show in 1985. But it was losing to Emmerdale as it was established.

This was said before but I'm sure I remember in the old days of itv when the region's didn't show all there programmes at the same time didn't Emmerdale go out at 5.15pm in some regions like Anglia ?

Weirdly enough, my two least favourite episodes of the series has been the two evictions. Last night was far better than the eviction episode the day before which was mind numbingly boring with one of the dullest evictees ever (good for the show).

    Agreed. Get Fincham out!

Bake Off is a triumph. A very good show.

I am sure that things will improve for ITV - ratings wise - over the coming weeks. After all they have Downton and .......... erm .........oh yes the RWC :D

    1.32m (6.4%) exc. +1.

Elsewhere, the incredibly self indulgent sounding ITV Changed My Life wasn't totally disgraced with 1.81m (8.2%) exc. HD and +1. More than The Nick got at 9pm anyway.

It was. And I'm old enough to remember when Emmerdale Farm was a daytime soap in the afternoonons on ITV. Then it went to 5.15pm then to 7.00pm.

Thanks for that. May be closer to 1.50m then I thought. ITV Changed my life... :p what an arrogant title! And so, The Nick went sub 2m then? Not good for a Wednesday!
