Just looking at that Sketches of Catalonia album I played 'So What' and it's a different version than the 'So What' that we've had linked to on here before with the Sant Andreu big band
Different soloists and appears to include an electric guitar solo ?......I'm not very good at recognising instruments !
I had assumed that some of these tracks were just the ones that we've had before but I think I'll play the whole album tomorrow to see if all the tracks are different versions
Another (but incomplete) version of "Poor Butterfly" by Andrea Motis videod on a mobile phone last year, but only just uploaded. As I mentioned before, this tune has a long introduction, which is hard for any singer, even Sarah Vaughan had a bit of a struggle with it. But the tune is worth the wait.
Carla Motis on guitar.
I'm still mainly listening to that Sketches of Catalonia album and that's leading me to the later Miles Davis Jazz-Rock fusion which I thought I wouldn't like but I'm getting into it..........slowly !

there's also a Jamie Cullum concert from the same festival if you like that kind of thing........I thought he was alright a few years ago but I've gone off him.

Thanks for that.
Never thought much of Jamie Cullum, to be honest, in my opinion, he's a; "Tonight Matthew, I'm gonna be.." sort of performer...
But I prefer the earlier version with Scott Hamilton and Andrea..........which is still my favourite of all the Sant Andreu videos. This is stunning.....
In this one Marc Martin gets a mention and a solo. As a pianist, he's been in the background in a lot of videos previously posted. He has a nice relaxed style.
I notice that it's referred to as 'The Rita Payes Quartet'............:D
Doesn't appear to be a lot of ego amongst the girls...........they all seem happy to take it in turns to be the 'named leader'.
I think that's part of the plan. They are principally working in pretty narrow field of music appeal, so the promotion of one helps the others and of course the whole band. The recent examples of more exposure for Marc Martin and Eduard Ferrer, may be ground work for any time that the others solo careers, get more established.
I thought it a nice touch that after the three girls taking the applause, Andrea came over and gave Carla a bit of a cuddle, for her contribution on guitar.
'Lazy River' was a big hit for Louis Armstrong amongst many others.......it's one of those songs that was always on the radio when I was little, but I don't think it was the Satchmo version........wiki have a page full of recorded versions
Probably Kenny Ball.......that would be the right vintage !
Re-watching the video I linked, I noticed Andrea Motis was playing a trumpet that she only occasionally uses. This has the normal three piston valves, but also a short "slide valve."
This feature enables the player to get a truer sounding D and Db.
Having immersed myself in Miles Davis for the last couple of months I get the comparison......:)
Andrea is definitely my favourite current female artist.
As well as the singing, trumpet and saxophone I seem to remember her drumming on one video and joining the choreographed backing dancers on another one......multi-talented indeed !

But this is my favourite version by Cannonball Adderley, on an album I bought many decades ago, as a teenager.
It's "old fashioned, modern jazz.
Play the tune straight, then improvise a solo, then one from a "side man" then return to the tune for the last chorus.

My favourite version of this was by Bunny Berigan, recorded in 1937.
Died in 1942 at the age of 33 from cirrhosis. What a waste of a great talent.

I haven't listened to that one yet........Davis made a lot of records !
I've listened to most of the ones up to the early 60s........then I've skipped ahead and listened to some of the more rock influenced later albums
The middle ones have escaped me so far.........but I'll put that one next on my list
just read about it on wiki and it sounds good !
He's giving a couple of young tenor players a chance to shine.
The "usual suspects" Carla, Rita, Eva and Magali are in the Orchestra.

Andrea has sung it on another recording too.
But the original which you linked I too think is still the best
It's noticeable that these uploads are getting a lot of hits in just a few days.
Josep Traver, getting a rare guitar solo.

A rare upload of a performance by a solo male vocalist fom the Sant Andreu Band.
Eduard Ferrer
Andrea Motis, Eva Fernandez and Rita Payes, provide the backing vocals.

I like the first one better. I think Marc is a terrific pianist.
He played the piano solo on the cover of 'So What' which is one of my favourites

As for the other one it's a bit lounge music isn't it ?........:D
Ooo!
Dunno about "lounge music," it's a classic jazz standard, recorded by "The World and His Wife,"
But this by Ben Webster and Oscar Peterson, is my favourite version,

Not often now you see the Motis sisters, Fernandez and Pays playing and scat singing on the same small stage.

Andrea Motis on soprano sax, playing "Dixieland," is there no end to this girl's ability?
Good all-round performance from this sextet
